Silver will generally tarnished if you touch them with Bear hand... :P (Bare hand)
Any fabric material sometime can make them toning.
The worst is sponge material.

OMP , if keep too long can also damaged the coin/ bar permanently.

Generally, any plastic bags material can deteriorating over time period

Life span of any plastic materials 10 years, imo
Some a few months depend on the molecular chains.

Think 10 years is a long period, just replace the next 10 years or so.

Is tarnish as bad as milkspots or cleaned?

Nope!

I buy tarnish/toning bars/coins ; its depending where the toning located.
Some are great. Good price premium are given.

Recently, got some bars with natural antique Toning.
Gun Metal colour naturally occurred.

I don't handle my silver very much but when I do I wear white cotton gloves.

Only good for single use....
Then wash them. Your fingers do get sweat and leave some oil residue from your skin on to the gloves ;)
Which eventually transfer to the metal.

This is true but if you wash hands before you put on the gloves I have found that i can get a good couple weeks use without seeing any oil transfer to the coins.

Hands n fingers are always oily , here is simple proof

Get a mirror rubbed your fingers on it. You will see smug on it.

That residue later I suspect react with the silver eventually cause milkspot/ marking on the material.

Yet to be define.

You think it's normal to secrete oil to a degree that it goes through cotton gloves in a single use? :/
I don't buy that, certainly not in my case.

Sweat

Best is to minimise contact with hand/ fingers.
Keep the metal in sealed bags from air & hot temperature.
