Silver coin without 999 silver mark

For $120 USD I wouldn't touch it. If it is silver, it's well over spot, and not a worthwhile investment - particularly given the lack of markings and the fact it's a private round. If it's the subject matter that you're interested in, ignore the fact that it's made from silver, and decide if you want to pay that much for it.

Personally I wouldn't touch private rounds without markings.
 
I agree with GP you need to decide is it something that interests you or is it an investment ?

If you are looking for something you like then price does not matter if you are prepared to buy something. In an item that is or isn't silver you have approx $90 bullion give or take. You do however have no real proof you would need to find a legit reference if you wanted to sell one, and other ebay listings may not be good enough. Look at your hesitation. Have you looked at the Perth Mint products there just may be something in the range they have. Plus it will be a recognized brand that you will at least know it is silver. As for future investments it is hard to say when you consider that a lot of these have done nothing really in growth. Then this will be something for you so price doesn't really matter.

Investment or bullion then go down that track and stick to it, however you can still get variety in these areas as well. Perhaps not a specific as you are being here.

Nominal mass (according to the people who made it) is 1.6 Troy ounces

Looks like it's made on the same blank as their Mayan Prophecy coin, which has the same specs.. These were issued with an inaccurate "COA" claiming "2 Troy ounces"
The 2 that I weighed, were just a whisker under 1.8 ozt ..

The "2 Troy ounces" claim by the ebay sellers is probably due to the same "COA" being issued with these rounds..

NWTM has been informed of the discrepancy, but it doesn't look like they've done anything about it :o

The Mayan Prophecy coin has "Made in U.S.A." and "NWTM .999 FINE SILVER" stamped on the edge, I presume the same would apply to this one..

I have seen a few antiqued medallions in the past, they generally look like someone has wiped a rag soaked in black paint across them and then given it a bit of a buff.

Not a fan of the theme but it does go to show that the private mints are willing to produce rounds that have more than just the same image stamped on them year after year.
 
I'm always very careful about ash washed coins. It's not uncommon for the coin to be made of a silver/nickel alloy, and then thickly plated with fine or sterling, and then ash washed (the black stuff). The result is the "pewter" look described. In this case I'd be concerned that the material described is "silver antique", albeit proceeded with 999. Where their silver bullion bars NWTM sell have the material simply described as "silver".

If you like the design, sure, buy it. But I think you may be disappointed if you were expecting 2 oz of pure silver... :)
 
yup theres no way I am buying that coin now, even if it was real theres only 1.6 oz of silver in it, plus the lack of the 999 fine silver stamp doesn't look too good, thanks for the replies
