Silver coin gift for a newborn baby

Hey stackers,

My first niece was born recently and I wanted to give her a silver coin as a birth gift. Something released in 2014 that will hold or gain some premium and not cheesy or cartoonish. Would appreciate any ideas :D

*Budget is anything up to $150.

Cheers

Congrats on becoming an uncle.

I think given your parameters the 100g Pamp horse would be the go. Large & pretty. You could even spend $5 on a display stand.

I like the idea of a 5oz coin, but if you have time and creative / handy skills you could buy a 2014 1oz koala, kook, horse and croc and use the remaining $ to make a personalised frame/display/coin box

I would buy one of every differenty 2014 dated coin I could find and then on every birthday give the child a coin minted in the year they were born.

Might not go up in premiums but shear force of numbers should make it be worth something by the time they hit 18, or you run out of different coins to give.

I Have the above Coin which can be engraved through a jeweller with name and date! I will have to confirm tonight that it is that exact one (as there is a boy version)! If your interested id do it for $60 posted Via Paypal Gift (which leaves you room to pay for engraving)
Oh and the coin has a very unique Enamel layer over it which kind of protects it. Its still in its original little box and capsule.

That's a cool idea, but if I get her into stacking when she is a bit older she will be looking forward to new releases as much as I do haha.

Thanks for the suggestion. I may pick up one of these for my 1/10 collection, but I was after a 2014 dated coin.

Thanks for the offer. I note the PM also sells a range of these medallions. I was looking for something dated 2014 and that could attract a premium. It's a cute medallion though.

Would love to get her a proof 5oz freedom girl but that's a BU coin. I think the 5oz horse is much prettier than the BU version.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I think I'm gonna go with one of these.

- 1oz high relief lunar horse.
- 5oz lunar horse.
- 1oz Opal Tasmanian Devil.

I'm doing a similar thing for my daughter.

I've purchased loads of 2013 1oz coins and i'm currently waiting for a 2013 10oz Koala. I shall continue buying them each year. You have given me an amazing idea of giving her one on each of her birthdays. Unfortunately I have missed this year but I shall buy a 10oz in 2014 date. Then start in 2015 giving her one on her birthday :) She would end up with 18 - 10oz coins (at the least). that would make 180oz of silver... if the spot price is at 10 an ounce it would be worth 1800 with premiums on top if she was to sell... not bad.

That's why I get my niece a current year's coin for Christmas as well.

I put them in the air tite hangers so she can hang them up on the Christmas tree and every year there will be a new bauble to add.
