The difficulty, I believe, in creating a good replica slab is in the security label...the slab itself can always be produced to look authentic.
The security label is the much more difficult thing to counterfeit I believe.

ML, I wasn't there, but I did ask my friend if there was any kind of identification on the slabs and I was told that they were plain slabs with no form of identification or grading. I don't buy old US gold coins, so I am certainly not an expert. But add the lack of identification on the slabs to the fact that they were sold to the pawn shop owner by a gambler and I have little doubt the coins were fake.
