Silver bars tarnished in the corner?

Hello all,

I just bought a 100 oz silver bar from the Perth Mint from a reputable dealer in Sydney.
I noticed that the bar I received (and many others I saw packed in boxes), seem to be tarnished in the corner with a lead-like colour?
Freaked me out a little as I don't want to think I bought a painted lead bar!
What is it that causes this texture difference and discolouration in the top corner of the bar?
Is it due to the casting process?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome & dont worry about the tarnishing unless its rust, the blue tarnish develops after a few years ,

Tell me about it don't know if its the salinity in the air by the ocean or the high humidity from living in a temperate rain forest but milk spots seem to be poppin up in my stack. My harmonic, my grizzly, 2 x maples arghhh! :(

I'm beginning to suspect their is something about the Canadian environment that exacerbates the milk spot issue - Canada = milk spot capital of the world.

In a letter to the Canadian Mint from stackers around the world:

Dear Canadian Mint,

We are seeking information as to why your bullion coins (namely Maples) are highly susceptible to milk spots (white spots).

Coins from other mints are less likely to form said milk spots even in the same environment as the Maples.

Is there something wrong with the quality control or assurances of the Canadian Mint?

We look forward to your reply.

The reply from the mint was

Stackers,

Eh?

RCM

I talked to one of the workers at the mint and you guys are seriously mistaken for calling them "milk spots", they are something else, he said I wouldn't want to touch them (something to do with pearl necklaces) ;) :)

PS, I'm just kidding, they're not what I lead you to believe...
