Trouble with letting a HUGE bank to go under is that where do you draw the line?
Of the top 10 banks in the US, I would expect that 6 or 7 or more are actually insolvent. Same goes for Euro banks etc. (etc etc etc etc)
Saving one and letting another 6 crash would be a disaster for any economy.

OC I think that's why she was saying the fed can force the banks to sell assets and simplify their structure. So that they're smaller and won't take down the economy by being able to quickly liquidate assets.
She may be a lefty, but she is very intelligent. I prefer her social welfare ideals to the majorities corporate welfare ones in politics.
