Seller attempting to cancel an eBay Auction

Hi

Just won an ebay auction for a quite rare item and minutes after the auction ended I received an invitation to cancel the transaction from the seller with item out of stock as the reason

However he added a personal message saying that if he sells the coin at the auction price it will be a big loss for him

How would you react to the above if it happened to you ?

Tough titties.

But there is nothing you cAn do to make him sell it to you. You can try raise the flag with ebay...but nothing will happen.

Seller need to understand...there is a risk in auction...and they have to take it.
 
Wow. Didn't know you can cancel the auction after it ends.

I think you can highlight to eBay so the seller will get a blacklist for ending the auction like that.

But definitely won't be getting the coin at the price you wanted. :/
 
The guy's a loser. I'd put pressure on him to send the coin. You take a risk when you auction something and he has lost out. As Bloomst said, "tough titties."
 
Basically I need to agree to his transaction cancellation request otherwise he will still have to honor the deal and if he don't I'll have the option to open a case for item not received, then waiting for 10 working days to get a refund...

I did all that...nothing happen. Send an email to ebay...still nothing happen.

I tought ebay is going to introduce charges for ending auction earlier...coz a lot if times ebay missing out on fees by seller ending auction early to make a deal outside ebay.
 
I had the same thing happen to me recently people are weinies sometimes. I make sure to not give that particular seller any of my money period.
 
If you really wanted to push the point, and the seller lived near you, you could take him to small claims court. And you'd probably win as an Ebay auction is a valid contract.

However, how much do you value your time.

It's definitely not worth the time and the hassle

And to make things more complicated seller is based in Japan
 
I would lodge another complaint to ebay because while it's legit to cancel transaction after sale, it's not acceptable practice to do it because the seller doesn't like the fact that he didn't get what he thought he would. Selling on eBay myself, I've had to swallow some losses...it's gonna happen to most sellers who don't have friends of theirs placing bids on each other's items just to drive up the price or to avoid selling at a big loss.

Definitely make ebay aware of the reason he personally mentioned to you for cancelling.

it's the same as buyers not willing to pay for items won, and eBay doing nothing to them

the only thing to do is to make automatic negative feedback for those who do not honor the deal
 
I wouldn't push to complete the transaction
Seller could still take the payment, claim to have sent the item and not send it and then refund you when it doesn't turn up

If you want to stuff him around a bit just wait as long as possible before agreeing to the cancellation so he has to wait to get the listing fees back
And then leave neg feedback once you do cancel :)

Or do nothing and make him open an unpaid item
eBay can look at PMs

BTW his negative feedback shows what will happen if the item will be payed

Do not let him cancel the auction -- make him wear the final value fees.


make sure you leave negative feed back informing others of what has happened as well
 
it does not help. got happened few times to me in the past, even after payment.. so long as

try get from other people, would save more of your time.

The same thing happened to me a year or two ago. Complained to ebay and they basically said they wouldn't do anything other than possibly lower his rating a little. So, I paid with a credit card. As I suspected he would do, the seller took the money and ran. I filed a dispute with my credit card company and ebay was stuck for the $3000+.
 
nothing you can do about it.. just move on... just accept the cancellation so he get his final value fee back from ebay.

even you leave negative feedback, he can just sign up on another account.. what difference does it made ? and he will leave another negative feedback to you as well..
 
As a seller on eBay as well, this is disappointing that this particular seller has taken this stance in order to save costs. That is the risk of a no-reserve auction (which is what we do all the time as it generates more bids). More often than not the price ends very well for the seller due to bidding wars. But there are occasions where it the closing price is at a loss for the seller.

eBay have numerous tools and support to protect the buyer. We find the eBay customer service is helpful for this.
