+1 Not a bad safe series.

Just remember, half the safe's cash rating for 'realistic' storage value.

You guys watch too many movies like The Italian Job and Oceans-11,12 &13! haha.
Security should not be taken lightly my friend.
I suppose I could express, "you guys are too naive and complacent".
.

I agree with the buy a safe senario, but i also belive in the spread it around theory. I'm just too dam paranoid to have all my silver eggs in one basket (or metal box) :P

Here's what I've learned about safes
Bet one thats near 2 tonnes ,old Chubb style safe ,pre 90's
The newer safes are light weight compared to the older ones
Bolt it to the ground ,to concrete only ,wood floors are easy to remove the safe

But it is still possible to remove a safe that's bolted to the ground
The special tool required to do it is VERY load ,requires HEAPS of power
And is as bright as the lights at the MCG ( stadium lights )
That's just to get it out of the ground

Than if you know what your doing it can take a week to pick the safe apart

I have a friend who does Bank fit outs ,he told me about the blow torch that melts concrete

Hi,
The risk with safes is that the thieves can beat the crap out of you to get the key/combination and make you open it or worse.........."squeal little piggy" although, perhaps, this may be enjoyed by some.

Never hide stuff in the bedroom - have been told that thieves spend 3 of the average 4 minutes of a burglary in the master bedroom.

If you've got a bathroom sink that has that useless piece of porcelain hiding the pipes that goes from base of sink to the floor, always a good place to stick some.
(and still none of these are my hiding spots)

I don't know how much that % of your life savings is, but if a heavy safe costs a couple % of it, buy one. Put the safe in some inner corner in the house, put some large and heavy stuff around it and do your best to make it look like there is nothing (of importance) behind it. It should require enough effort to just make the safe visible.
Hiding it into various places scattered around is not that effective. If you get 'visit' they don't care about damage, they just empty everything on sight. Also, if some visitor (whoever it is, doesnt have to be someone breaking in) finds a place accidentally, he could take it and you might discover it only a year later.

Well, there are two kinds thieves in this story. The first one visits you and is illegal, the other doesn't need to visit you and does it legal. So chosing is weighting these risks against eachother.
The legal one is adding regulation, lower cash limits, demand banks to report, stop bank secrecy, and it could be that when the time is there that the latter thief becomes the biggest threat, that its too late.

THANKS a million Silvernash!!!

Guys, if you are thinking about a GUY toolbox take a look at this.

(It's what the ladies use for MAKE UP! - believe it or not!)

Now, I'm not saying it's secure! - but it would be a world of fun to rearrange all those adjustable partitions to snugly fit all your bars and kilo coins on a dull afternoon...

That's all I'm saying about it!

Question from earlier in this thread: someone mentioned PVC + silver is a no-no.

Question: I have some rolls of Silver Eagles in the standard plastic US Mint tubes (the squarish ones with the green top that says 'US Treasury'). Are these tubes PVC?

If so I suppose I'd better empty em out and individually encapsulate the coins in Airtites or something? ASEs obviously aren't numismatic but I'd like them to keep their shine as long as possible still...
