A missile cruiser, which just happens to be the flag ship of the Russian Black Sea naval fleet, and whose purpose is "to destroy hostile surface ships" in order to aid evacuation? Odd...
Oh dear... what could possibly go wrong?

I suppose this begs the question of just what she will do in a showdown.

Will Moscow order her to sink Israeli surface ships or subs, and maybe down Israeli aircraft.

Will she enter Israeli territorial waters, which would be an act of war in itself. Will she escort ships to the Gaza coast? Will she defend those ships from attack if she is not attacked herself.

Is she capable of finding and destroying an Israeli 'Dolphin' sub?

PS, This ship is 30 years old, just about at the end of her operational life.

I'm quite sure that the Israeli's are capable of sending this second rate bath tub to the bottom of the harbour. Their airforce and pilots are second to none.

Kind Regards

It would be a cheap way to decommission it anyway...

I wouldn't worry too much. I think this is to make the Russian ex-pats in Israel feel safe....not to intimidate Israelis.

There are a stack of wealthy Russians in Israel. Russian is the 3rd most spoken language in Israel.

Putin is an egomanic...this is pure posturing.. nothing more.

;)

AND

Israel was started with Russian & Polish Jews .

This isn't an offensive move, it is just for show.

Capital ships such as this one are useless on their own. They need a battle group surrounding and protecting them to be used effectively, just like an aircraft carrier.

If you read the story the task force heading to Israel includes two heavy landing craft, and the story indicates the force is there to evacuate Russian citizens if required. The flagship is, yes, just for show. But I'm sure the Russians have a system of automated chain guns as a defence against incoming missiles, just like the Americans do. Necessary if anyone in Islamic Jihad of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine decides that the fleet or Jewish evacuees make for a good target.

The patrol boat in the task force keeps small Gazan surface craft and nosey international media launches away from the heavy landing craft, the Muskova is for overall force protection, presence and the vehicle for the force commander.

And the Russians have sent a navy sea tug as part of the task force, for when the Muskova breaks down.

The last time Israel came across a Russian vessel they stopped trying to sink the American warship they were attacking http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Liberty_incident

I don't think anybody is supposed to know about or even remember the USS Liberty incident. Aren't we all supposed to be feeding our collective amnesia with the main stream media's version of events and justifications. Nothing to see here folks, move along now and watch you don't fall into any rabbit holes.

Probably about as well as the Israeli Iron Shield would go against ICBM's designed to overcome USA's defences

Iron Shield seems to be doing an outstanding job with 80% success @ $45,000 per shot. That cr@ps all over the US Patriot Missile system with 40% success @>$1M per shot.

The Israeli's developed it mostly on their own and now the US is sidling up to them trying to go into a cost sharing development project.

Add to that, Iron Sheild is intercepting tiny little motar sized bombs/rockets with just a few seconds warning, whereas Patriot had minutes to detect and intercept SCUDS the size of a school bus.

Britain's "Rapier" System intially deployed at San Carlos in the the Falklands War doesn't even rate a mention. :(

None is pretty low. Coming second to none is even lower. :| Are you suggesting they are shite?

The Israeli line of talk may be just a cover. It'd be handy for Russia to have another couple of boats floating around the region, co-incidentally close to it's port in Syria. :)
