Removing PM bullion coins from capsules to reduce storage space.

Hi guys,
Just looking for some opinions on this! Maybe it would be a crazy thing to do!
After receiving some mice from Steve today i have maxed out my current storage
facility and i was thinking maybe this would be one way to reduce my stack volume,
as 20 1oz encapsulate coins take up so much more space compares to say a
tube of Eagles or Maples.
At the end of the day they are bullion coins, or would this reduce there premium
in the future?
Currently looking at other storage options as they would look so naked without
the capsule.

Don't do it...you paid a premium for those 'coins in holders'...once they're out they scratch and ding easily, don't throw your wealth away. Just find a good hiding place until you get a bigger safe/lockbox.

Yes, you're correct that removing them will remove some (or most) of the premium when you go to sell them. Exposure to the air will also speed up the oxidization process and they'll tone - that might be a desirable look for some collectors, but it will turn off a lot of people. They're also more likely to get scuffed or scratched, which is expected of ASEs and Maples, but not with Perth Mint issues.
 
Thanks guys for such a definitive answer so quick, may sell some of them to make room For some dragons but till i get some more space i will prob stack some more gold :)

I buy or take trade-ins and really can't believe the disrespect some of you stackers show for your coins.
On a regular basis, I am getting coins that has cracked and badly scuffed capsules. There is no excuse for letting your coins get to this condition.
Without the capsules protecting the coins; I can assure your resale price will be at least a dollar less.

Totally agree with the above sentiments though LJS, keep the goods in the capsule!
 
From a coin collector perspective, keep in the capsule unless the capsule is severely damaged, then replace with another of similar construction. The last thing I want is grubby finger prints on my lovely proof or uncirculated coins.

If you are buying coins purely for stacking and don't mind only getting bullion value and the coins don't come in capsules, just stack them. Whilst putting them in a capsule will protect them, it doesn't add to the value.

However, if a bullion coin comes in a capsule and you want to sell it not in a capsule, expect questions as most dealers will want to know what happened and as Steve said, you will get less or only spot.
