Read my earlier post in this thread. Miller process will give 995-997 fineness.996 is a curious fineness. I was not aware that Perth Mint produced other degrees of gold fineness.
Does anyone know why this might be? How does it work? Do they pour off a portion of the gold at 996, before they go on to refine the remainder to 99.99?
