Question: "Unopened" coins?

I'm hoping to tap the hive mind here.

Someone just pulled out of a sale because the coins were not 'unopened'.

This is referring to Perth Mint kangaroos in the clear plastic oyster case that the coins come in. Buyer asked for pictures and so I took the coins out of plastic cases for image and then resealed them in the cases. Buyer then asked about image and I said they were removed from the oyster case for the image. Buyer then declined to proceed as he thought the coins were 'unopened'.

Am I missing something? I thought this was the only format these coins were presented as - that is in the clear plastic cases. Has Perth Mint another version of coins cases with the coins sealed in some way?
 
Not handled, but yes exposed to air.

That alchemy is a worry but my greatest concern is a shower of golden meteorites spread across Oz from WA to Cape Tribulation!

Fair go Spannermonkey. He's a new member and I'm always open to learning more but I suspect he's confused PM presentation with slabbing, but I thought there may be some new PM product on offer; signed, sealed and delivered! ;)
 
Definitely an extremely fussy buyer, over the top in my opinion.

It would be understandable if it was low mintage stuff but I suppose there's a market out there that's looking for mint, unopened coins of all descriptions, rare or otherwise.

Personally I'd love to peel a roo or two out of their transparent plastic prison cell and play .... should I ?
I've already handled my 20oz kookaburra so perhaps I've just answered my own question

Taking good photos of coins in capsules is next to impossible, so I completely understand why someone would.

Ps, I'm always in the market to pay spot on any "non mint" silver or gold coins :)

Personally, for bullion I don't think it matters much. I handle sovereigns without a thought since they've been out in the wild in someone's pocket for years and my fingers won't do much damage after that, and besides some gold coins are very sensual I find.

As for Perth Mint offerings, the market likes them pristine so I don't touch them, and besides, there's no history to imagine, although there is a rewarding weight when in the hand.
 
Air and condensation will sap thru the capsule.. that’s just total BS from buyer, especially coming from newbie... I mostly ignore newbies these days..

no capsule seal will keep coins from ageing, even those air-tite ones...or those PCGS/NGC slabs, unless coins are treated with special serum
