"When Vladimir Putin says the U.S. is endangering the global economy by abusing its dollar monopoly, he's not just talking. He's betting on it.

Not only has Putin made Russia the world's largest oil producer, he's also made it the biggest gold buyer. His central bank has added 570 metric tons of the metal in the past decade, a quarter more than runner-up China, according to IMF data compiled by Bloomberg. The added gold is also almost triple the weight of the Statue of Liberty.

"The more gold a country has, the more sovereignty it will have if there's a cataclysm with the dollar, the euro, the pound or any other reserve currency," Evgeny Fedorov, a lawmaker for Putin's United Russia party in the lower house of parliament, said in a telephone interview in Moscow.

I will admit. I get warm fuzzy feelings when I see powerful countries (or any country really) buying precious metals.

Reinforces my gold buying strategy.
 
And yet Peter Costello sold our gold off as an irrelevant back water relic ... a treasurer that doesn't know what treasure is
 
I really admire Putin as a leader even if he is authoritarian. At least he puts his own country's interests first, unlike our "leaders".

Note the gold cross he is wearing as well.

Yep Putin knows what he's doing, could do with a guy like him in our parliament, even as only a portfolio minister.

His raping the country while he can
The average person on the street would not know anything about the gold

Basically Puttin is the worlds biggest gangster;)
Every stunt with an animal his been , has been staged :rolleyes:
His bank balance makes large nations look like they are poor ;)
The country runs on corruption & if you try to make a difference & provide evidence to the truth
