Have your say on " PRECIOUS METALS DERIVATIVES PRODUCTS ". ASX and The Perth Mint (Gold Corporation) have signed an agreement to develop new precious metals derivatives products that will be quoted and traded on ASX. Will this set the trend for other mints to follow suit ? :P

Other than the fact it Perth Mint behind it, how does this differ from ASX listed BetaShares Gold Bullion stock (code QAU)?

I was just joking. I know what a derivative is. But that is all I know about them.

If I tried to make money from derivatives, I'd probably lose it.

Those are ETFs, with this the ASX is looking to list gold futures contracts and the Perth Mint will be the warehouse/delivery point for the gold. BTW, the Perth Mint has its own ETF style product on the ASX since 2003, under code PMGOLD.

A derivative is something a big institution sells without owning it. If you did it it would be fraud and you would go to jail. These institutions then leverage it to maximize their profits and your loss. Heads you lose tails I win. That is a derivative.
