Pre-decimal coin help

Hey everyone just a post what people think would be best to stack out of shillings, florins, threepence and six pence considering the amount of silver per coin and by how much they range for in price, thanks
 
Florins tend to get more interest - understandably. So I recommend you go for pre-1945 florins. If you want to pretend you're a pirate get the threepence and sixpence.

Agreed. I have collections of UNC threepences and have accumulated a lot of lower grades which are pretty useless but look good when you spill them into messy piles with big chunks of bullion in between. It feels very piratey and you can run your hands through them like sand and go "arrrh".
 
Personally, I like the pre-1946 ones (92.5% silver vs the 50% silver content of the post-1946 ones). I have a number of post 46 ones, but will be planning on getting rid of them at some stage.

As for the mix, I have a lot of 3d and 6d but I'd have hated to use them as general coins - especially the 3d because they get lost so damned easily. Drop one in the carpet and spend the next 5 minutes hunting for it.

So for me, I'm mainly in the market for pre-46 florins and shillings and, if I can find them inexpensively, 1937 crowns.
 
Bump, thanks for the help. I was looking at the pre- decimal calculator and am I right when I say that 11 shillings from 46-66 is an ounce of silver?

It doesn't lie.
 
Pre and post are all fractional silver, yes you are stacking a little copper in them as well but at the end of the day you have fractional coins that you can buy very close to spot. I see them as like a first aid kit for your stack and everyone should have some close by.
