phase three

Silver-coin sales from the Perth Mint, which was founded in 1899 and processes all of the country's bullion, have surged to a record as buyers seek to protect their wealth with the metal known as poor man's gold.

The mint sold 10.7 million one ounce silver coins since July 1 last year, according to Sales and Marketing Director Ron Currie. That's 66 per cent higher than the previous full fiscal year and about 10-fold more than five years earlier. Sales of one ounce gold coins will be close to a record, he said.

Roughly 1 coin per 2 people. Considering how many are in the hands of ss members there is a lot of sheeple out there with no silver.

Less really. A lot goes overseas.

worth remembering that sales of 1oz coins have also increased due to the lack of bars produced so far in 2011. Would be a more useful article if it also had a comparison of total volume of silver sold by PM this year

Interesting article, doesn't seem to say anything negative about silver or have any "experts" talking about how it will drop and it's a bad investment

I thought that 10 million one ounce coins seemed completely ridiculous

Actually took into account all forms of bullion and numismatic coins sold, not just one ounce coins

There's been a misinterpretation we sold 10.7 million ounces of silver in the form of bullion and numismatic coins within the timeframe mentioned. The correct information was provided in the interview - so apologies for any confusion as a result of the article.

Ron Currie
