Nice coin, but I'm surprised by how little interest there is for the Platinum Lunar coins. There aren't many Platinum series coins, yet there isn't even 5000 people globally that are interested in them. o_O

Is this a sign that the collectable coin market is overly saturated or that people have no interest in Platinum?
 
The long depressed state of the platinum spot prices is the reason for the lack of interest rather than the over-saturation of supply.

I don't expect platinum to be worth more than gold again during my lifetime despite it being many times more rarer than gold [ unless something untoward happens like SA not releasing supplies, or some new widespread essential usage found for it ]

Lets just say there is no interest for them on this forum...let alone for anything else for that matter if it is not for spoto_O:rolleyes:(there are always exceptions though:))
 
Was pretty quick sold out at the Perth Mint website. I bought two because I think it will be one of the better ones in the series. As far as I could see, Bullion Now had something like 30 in stock (I was one of the ballot winners) and Michael said in the video 10-11 times more people signed up for the ballot. The demand is there. I think it's a solid buy. I'm from Germany, but living for the past five years in Australia. Never was interested in Pt back home, as you have to pay 19% tax if you buy it. Here in Australia it's tax free. Makes it way more interesting. I think when the price goes (hopefully) up in the future, more people will be interested. I keep stacking because I think it's undervalued.

Yeah, I think it's more a gamble than the other metals, but who knows what happens in SA or Russia in the future and how hydrogen fuel cells will play out. Always happy to pick it up for around production costs at 800-900 USD.

Same as Perth. I bought one from Perth for 1604$ during the first minutes (+35$ shipping incl insurance). BN was around that. I've waited for the next day to buy though and the price dropped overnight. Picked one up for 1568$ from BN.

Platinum group of metals is 30 times rarer than gold and yet the price is 60% lower than gold, go figure:confused:

I don't know why SA doesn't just stockpile and withhold production from the world markets until prices reach realistic levels and then trickle-feed the world at the higher prices.

This strategy has worked well in the diamond trade for a very long time to keep the diamond prices artificially much higher than what they ought to be, as only a small
percentage of the diamonds mined each year are released for sale.

SA is the only real player in the game, producing most of the world's supply, Russia produces only a small amount in comparison.

It is probably because they have become such a piss-poor and corrupt country post-white rule, that they are forced to forward sell the metal before they even dig it out of the ground for whatever price is offered to them:rolleyes:

How many years before Aust is a basket-case like South Africa?

The $300 premium over the spot is well over 20% if my rusty brain is correct, and seems a bit too much for a bullion-issue coin.

If I was stacking platinum I would be purchasing proof koalas and other such issues at auction for around spot or sometimes even a bit under, to get the most bang for my bucks.

Sound advice Leo, if I was 40 years younger I could have made use of it!

With you being only 25 years old and having this type of philosophy, you have it mastered and the world is your oyster.

No wonder you can afford to think that a bullion coin selling for nearly 25% premium is a good buy;)
