Perth Mint Wedge Tailed Eagle 2015

Wondering what your thoughts are on the Perth Mint Wedge Tailed Eagle returning in 2015 with the same design. I find it strange that the perth mint would be releasing two bullion products with the same design each year (croc/eagle) however it appears this info was confirm (re: the eagle) by Bullion Baron.

How do you think this will impact the price of the coin? Originally 50,000 with 5000 in Australia seemed like a low mintage semi numismatic however if the same design can be purchased with a single digit change on the coin (14 to 15), I can only really see this having a negative impact on their premium...which is a shame as I absolutely love the idea of the eagle having its own release similar to the kook.

Thoughts?

Hmm, think it will appreciate cos its the first year coin.

The 2010 Fiji Takus come to mind.
 
As long as the mintage is no bigger, I don't think it would have any negative impact.

The shark and eagle aren't really similar... The eagle low mintage and high premium, while the croc is high mintage low premium?
 
what about a bigger mintage 2015 eagle so set collectors need the 2014 to make a set will drive 2014 prices up?

Perhaps PM wants to combat high premiums on this coin from re sellers,flippers? What good is it to PM that their coins sell for more on ebay than they sell them for in the first place? last years coin at double the price on ebay or this years coin at regular price direct from the mint,still collectable just by changing dates:)

I would imagine if they wanted to do that they would just release low premium high quantity coins. Or alternatively, high priced low quantity coins like proofs.

One with high quality, high premium, low mintage, one with low quality, low premium, high mintage...some sort of social experiment they are playin on us. Its almost like they get to sneak in another "lunar esque" coin into their product line to attract the semi numi buyers..

Perth Mint (or any Mint) makes money from the premiums they slap onto their products be it proof or bullion. It is none of their interest to know resale price on eBay, as long as Perth Mint clears their entire inventory and recognize their profit, that is considered job done revenue recognized. Once they sold out a product it makes sense to start another new production run for a new product.

Slap a high premium will deter buyers and that leads to slower sales and higher inventory cost. Reduce premiums will clear stock very fast but lesser profit.

Include...ASE, Phillies, Maples and there are many others.

Based on low mintage figures, I can see this series being highly sought after...especially the first release.
As previously stated above, if they do decide to increase mintage numbers, then don't be surprised to see the first release fetch big $$$

So in answer to the OP, IMO.....same design wont affect price or collectability
 
Right now , if any Mint came out and guaranteed a bullion coin that would never get milk spots or have crappy finishes, I think these coins would be in high demand seeing all the crappy bullion coins that are coming out now. Not much to choose from these days.
 
So ok are these coins commissioned by a private company and only available to Australians through a third party?
