Perth Mint site made Poseidon purchase a lottery

Here's my story of woe...
  • By about 11:58, the site was obviously lagging badly.[/*]
  • 12:01 (Perth time) - Coin doesn't appear. In fact, nothing much appears, which is expected. But then...[/*]
  • 12:05 - Site starts giving error pages[/*]
  • 12:07 - Site has logged me out in return for loading the home page[/*]
  • Many attempts to login, or load the Poseidon page, result in the error page[/*]
  • At 12:38 I finally managed to get the Poseidon product page and add one to my cart. Site has logged me out of account, again.[/*]
  • At 12:41, I've successfully logged in and the coin has remained in my cart.[/*]
  • At 12:48, I'm finally able to submit the order.[/*]
  • Now, "waiting for confirmation of order" screen comes up. Says it'll be confirmed in 42 minutes.[/*]
  • At 1:20, the screen changes to tell me there's no stock and I need to make the following chages to my order;[/*]
Your order contains items which exceed available stock: Gods of Olympus Poseidon 2014 2oz Silver High Relief Coin - 0 Available

Subsequently, I make many statements along the lines of, "Wow, those Perth Mint fellows, really need to load-balance their servers. It's really a gosh-darn shame I was unable to buy that spiffy coin, despite being there well before release time, and living in the same country."

yep same, and true at least I wouldn't have wasted 2 hrs or more still awake, if their server was good we would all know in 10 minutes what was going on and then go to bed.
be the last time I do that don't care how good the coin is u will not want it total waste of my time and now my day is going to be long and hard, yeah I know nobody made me do it but I wont do it again!!
 
Pretty much word for word same here, except I logged on even earlier.

And I thought the US mints 2011 Anniversary eagle sets was bad, but I actually got those...and when the recent Baseball coins went live the US mint improved their server capability greatly as well as the actual process as well...got those too.

Perth mint dropped the ball bigtime on this release
 
This is very unethical that Perth Mint did to its loyal customer, especially, Australia friends that endure frustration and painful process, Whom giving up precious sleeping time for it.

someone could blame the Web site glitch. However, I think it was intentionally set up to do just that. ( It better to let you wait and go through the process for 40 or 60 minutes than show it unavailable only few seconds after midnight)

Unavailable is not the same as sold out. it's more likely it had been set aside to allocated for dealers... ( My guess, one coin per order is just for a few hundreds orders only)

The thing that really gets me is here's a company that can afford to turn $40 million of gold into the "most valuable gold bullion coin in the world", but they can't be bothered updating their site to handle spikes in traffic.

Perth Mint could be excused if traffic was in the region of 500,000 hits per minute... but I doubt it ever comes anywhere near those levels.
 
The simple answer is they had none for sale - the whole exercise was a sham
I also logged on early same experience
All the coins were obviously sold to their dealer mates
None for the muppets
 
I wonder what the "official" response will be?
Why make a big deal about 1 per household etc etc, and then this?
It would be nice to know how many were actually available for sale on the Perth Mint site.
Maybe future releases as this should be done as a lottery?- at least that way you know you have a chance - and no need to get up at a ridiculous release hour suited to overseas buyers!
Shouldn't an Aussie organisation be giving priority to it's local customers?

like what the RAM does on coins that will highly sort after.

I am guessing but wouldn't mind beating these are commissioned by who ever.
 
Something was seriously messed up with the website errors, the strange period of "queuing" and then, right at the end, a message about no stock.
 
Same experience here in the States. I feel marginally better seeing that it wasn't just because of where I lived. I think in the other thread there was only one guy who claimed to have gotten one and he just joined and has 4 posts. Not sure I believe him. This experience has really put me off chasing low mintage coins from PM. Think I will sell my Zeus and try something else.
 
I'm somewhat shocked at how furious I am over this debacle. I cancelled a previous order I placed on Friday out of utter disgust. I'll have to sleep this one off, can't shake the frustration. I've been through this many times before on various sites, but *none* of them let you get as far as submitting your payment details before telling you "sorry, none for you" Now I know what Charlie Brown felt like after Lucy took the football (U.S.) away from him. ARGH!
 
Seems relatively consistent with previous experiences with Lunar proof launches :/

There's an old saying in Tennessee I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee that says, fool me once, shame on shame on Perth Mint. Fool me you can't get fooled again.

I love the logo! Awesome. That is what I think of when i think of the Perth Mint.
 
Yeah, so did I. unavailable now though. Until they say SOLD OUT on the page you should keep the perth mint page open
