I met the marketing girls from Aussie Pickers last month at one of the collectors markets. It's all very fashionable now to go picking and show off your stuff. As a consequence these type of shows are insanely popular.

cannot wait for wednesday night when the american pickers are on :)

Don't do it
What ever your selling double the price & add a "0"
Make sure you get paid

Ha! Would be quite happy with the price I'm asking, especially after the spot drop :/ Would be interesting to watch how it's all done.
Wonder if they would pay me first...

Just got a call from a lady claiming to be from Pawn Stars Australia looking to use something I'm selling in the show. Shop is in Bondi and apparently I'll get my asking price NQA. Said no to being personally filmed so they'll get someone else to do the sale.

Follow up email with Leftfieldpictures.com email address makes it look legit so will find out soon enough.

I also just got an email from a lady saying she was the casting producer for a new show on foxtel re. Pawn brokers. Said she was interested in some of my things and having a chat.

I wonder if they pay you to go on? :P

Which porn shop is that? I've always kept my eyes open for a decent one but had no luck yet...None of them seem to have anything interesting. Mainly old crappy guitars, and film cameras:P

Pawn stars gets the good stuff cause there in vegas! People will pawn anything for a extra spin of the wheel:P

seeing some of the dull fare in local pawn shops. i think an Australian or at least west Australian version of these shows would go down the drain fast.

never see anything interesting. just outdated tech and jewelery.
Same in Melbourne , the only decent pawn shop in town is the guy who told them to get stuffed .
He has some very interesting items ,but the really good stuff is not for sale

Like a solid silver egg (Greek in origin ) I saw there a few weeks ago & he wouldn't sell it .
I asked him how much & he said nothing :o
It's not for sale
He has an old Coke esky & that's not for sale

Thought I had replied to CJ's post but evidently not- it's a 100oz RCM silver bar. Not at all common over here so she thought it would be an interesting item for the show. No guaranteed sale (even though she originally said they'd agree to the selling price), would have to wait around for at least 3 hours (not guaranteed they'd film that day) and reimbursement for your time. Decided it wasn't worth it in the end.

Actually just stumbled on this thread, and I do know something about this.

Ok, I know of a pawn shop in Bondi on Hall Street where they filmed. I think this is the show as they said they were producing it.

It's all fake.

Let me tell you a bit about it and feel free to ask.

The store sold prior to filming had nothing but crap in it and put retail prices on second hand stuff, sometimes higher.
Then one day they fully renovate the shop and fill it with tons of cool stuff like old restored gas pump, sports memorabilia, antiques and other really interesting items. None of these items were bought in the shop. Walking past when they were filming (it's not a big shop) was a big affair, lots of people and cameras and trucks etc. It's typical scripted production. During film the you could see the actors and extras rehearsing etc.

The only time that you could enter the shop was after they filmed a bunch of episodes back to back to back. Hopefully it'll make some good TV.

YES!!!

That is the store in Bondi in Hall Street. Bang on the money!

It was hilarious watching the filming... lighting, cameras, people etc. they blocked off part of the footpath and had trucks out the front. It was so full that you couldn't swing a cat in there.

The renovation they did was huge to get it to look like that, it was super dero before they started filming. Wonder if they can make the actors look genuine as they were running a tight schedule (talked to the crew) with a limited budget.

Have to watch it with "suspension of disbelief" having seen them. I figured that they bought all the props (pawn items) on auction for the show.

Looks like they are trying to make themselves into characters, comedy guy, experienced guy... hopefully it will be well acted.

Dont have to watch it at all - "reality shows" as a rule eat the hairy bean bag

Hahaha! Too true... But just to see how it turned out, there's still a curiosity.

And yeah I know what happened to the cat.

Sheeple love reality shows. Any reality show about anything at all. Most of the top famous richest celebs today are from or started on dumb s**** reality shows. U need 0 talent and 0 brains and have nothing to loose from it. if someone legit ever asks you to be in a reality show and u turn it down. U either dont want to be famous dont want to be rich or are a moron. Why would a pawn broker turn down potential millions? Your bottom feeding as it is and OPs pawn broker turned it down!?

Shows what you know about the entertainment industry
You'll see that the producers had to " buy the business" to achieve the desired effect ;)
