Paris 1900 Expo coin

Hello,

I have a coin dedicated to the 1900 Paris Expo coin - but because I have no photo of my original silvery-coloured coin, but I found this on the internet - I think they're identical:

expo_coin.jpg

Mine is silvery, but I don't think it's silver. And it's made into a medal - a small ring holder has been soldered to its top part.

Have you seen any of these?

Any idea about how much they cost?

They seem pretty rare: none on eBay, not other auction sites. The only one I found was this Wikipedia image you see above.

I will try to post an image of my medal soon.

Nice looking medal!

Quite a number of medals from the early 20th century that I have seen pics and descriptions of are silver plated bronze. Maybe that's the case with your medal.

The real value in items like the one you have is not the silver content (even if it was solid silver), but the numismatic (collector) value. So, just because it's plated (if that's the case), don't frown upon that. In fact, you may indeed, as you believe, own a rare medal. I am no medal expert by any stretch of the imagination, but for the past year at least I have been perusing ebay for medals and I have not come across the one you have. Unfortunately, if in fact a riong holder was soldered on to the medal after market, then this would adversely affect the value to some degree I believe.

I am trying to find out whether it's worth 2,000 $ or 10 $...

I have never ever seen my coin anywhere on the internet.

When I have the possibility to upload a photos, I will.

I'm definitely sure it's not silver, it mus be some sort of another alloy. I just hope it's not some sort of a remake.

Hi TreasureHunter,

Would you like me to ask on the French forum if someone has some info for you?

If so, I will definitely need pictures please and info like weight, thickness etc.

Sure, it's so very kind of you! :)

I am doing my best to upload pictures as soon as possible.

Again: it's definitely not silver, but some cheap metal. It's the numismatic value that's is important in this case.

If you don't manage to upload picture here please just email them to me with all other info you may have (especially weight). As soon as I get them I'll open a new trade on the French Forum in order to find some info for you ;)

Here's my medal (definitely not silver, has nothing to do with it - but seems like the outer layer covers some copper-like colour, so perhaps it's like the coin I posted first):

expo_coin.jpg

Perhaps it is just like the top coin, but it was coated into something. That coating has an aluminum-like shine, but it's definitely not aluminium.
It is certainly coated, on the edges the aluminium-like coating is worn off and the bronze-like colour is visible. I think it should be one of those (probably bronze) coins I posted above.

I have no idea what the real material could be... It feels harder than silver. Although I can't exclude the alloy containing a bit of silver.

I think this was initially a coin - e.g. commemorative coin and then someone soldered that tiny ring holder to its top.

The details are not showing up well on this scan, the coin looks a lot better in reality.

I'll try taking a photo with something else. The scanner makes it look ugly. The tiniest scratches show up terribly ugly.

I appreciate anyone's help in determining the true value of this medal!

Subject created on the French Forum. Will let you know if they have questions.

I'm prety sure they are gonna ask for the weight...

Hi again,

I have an answer :)

"This is a molded medal and not hit, certainly an inexpensive souvenir of the 1900 Paris World Fair. I do not have the reference of this medal, but if it was molded it must had little value at the origin."

I know the main question you are asking yourself is HOW MUCH? :)

Well, this site is selling it for a bit less than 100 $AUD:

It is indicated that the building on the medal is the Palace of Electricity

I am a fan of these types of medals...especially from France. Have a few myself.

Even though this one is not silver, the design and depth of the casting is very interesting.

Good on you o-to for using the " French Connection" to find the answer :)

Thank you very kindly for the responses!

Especially to you o-to!;)

I reckon mine was covered with chrome or something similar. Chrome comes to my mind. Correct me if you think it's something else...
