I keep my coins in the mooncake box. The box can hold 40 NGC graded coins.

If you have bank deposit box, that is good. Mine cost RM150 per year. Have forgotten about the size. It has more than enough room for my small collection.
 
you can't avoid milkspots. it's caused by the residue of cleaning detergent during minting. it's a done deal only to appear later

Hmm, how about for older pandas? (1990 - 1999)

Ncs prevent tarnishing
 
Seems like I'm not the only one who uses my mooncake box for storing coins :)

You guys are lucky :) I grew a real fondness for them living in China (Shantou) for 6 years in the late 90,s early 2000,s ,You cannot find a decent fresh moon cake if at all in the USA ,where in Southern China all the 4 and 5 star hotels would compete as to who made the best ones :) Regency hotel in Shantou always had my favorites:)

I used to keep in mooncake box too LOL. Now I keep loose change in mooncake box instead of Pandas though.

I wonder if the mooncake box helps with this.

The box would oxidize before the coins and protect it. Maybe.

Which reminds me, I forgot to eat mooncake this year :(

I don't believe you will ever get a satisfactory answer on this.

We can take every positive measure to slow down the tarnishing and white spots, but nothing really is guaranteed. NCS, temperature and humidity controlled environment are things one can easily do to protect their coins.

But, if you are like me, just can't stand any tiniest possibility of white spot, then collect gold. At least red spot on gold is better than white spot on silver.

As a Chinese, we prefer red over white. Hahaha.

I don't use silica gel but I guess it is not harmful if you use. Just remember to regularly replace the silica gel if you use it.

Every environment is different. I have pleasant experience with using mooncake box and lock-n-lock plastic container for both my coins and banknotes.

The place where I stay and the way I keep my coins doesn't seems to work for full brilliance copper/bronze coins, therefore I don't collect them. I have a couple of cheap brass coins though. Will see how things work out.
 
Whats so special about mooncake box ??

How is that diff than any other box and how does it help in preventing tarnish and spots on silver coins ?

Mooncake box was my first coin and banknotes box back in 1986. I have one that "lost" for many years and discovered last year. Both the box and the banknotes were good.

I don't know if there is anything special. Each year I get a few of these box FOC, and seems a nice way to keep my coins, so I am happy.

Nothing is guaranteed to prevent tarnish or spots, or any other problem. The best you can do is to slowdown the process. Silver is a lot easier than copper. Then gold is a lot easier than silver. Platinum is almost free from these problem.

For subject like white spots, the more you read, the more you confuse. If white spots worries you, pick the right metal that you feel happy with. Life is too short to worry about this thing.

Nope .. I have a panda which i send to NCS + NGC during April this year . I saw a milkspot developed recently when i open up my safe :mad:.

Still love that 5oz despite having that milkspot . :lol:
