has anybody heard of/seen these? I can't find any substantive info with a few hours of googling, so I'm dubious as to whether it is a genuine minted coin. Apparently there're only 2500 of them..
 
Found them. Minted by Czech Repuplic. Bought 2. Will post info/pics in Silver Coins forum since this Numismatic forum is a ghost town :/

Did you end up getting it off ebay? Might order one myself, do like coins that are a bit different :-)
Agree, not much happening in here, everything seems to be about dragons and pandas! A bit over them :-)
 
Yeah, dragons and pandas, yawn :/ Got the skulls off eBay, found out they're 55usd from the Czech mint site but can't order international. Got any Czech friends? I paid a bit much probably (119ea) but just had to have em :D
 
Do you have a link to the czech mint site for that coin? Have checked out 2 mints there and still can't find it, don't have any friends there, but have a couple of relatives in England that do a bit of travelling so that may be an option - can only try :-)

It's 'Un Ultime Franc', the last french franc made before they changed to the Euro, 2001 BU, mintage about 50,000, won a couple of design awards - can't wait till it arrives :-)

They arrived! Pretty impressed with these, really very pretty and the COA states 1 ozt .999 fine ag. If these are any indication, the Czechs make a fine coin indeed :)

btw Andyroo: I had to have one of those Ultime Francs but procrastinated a little too long to get one from the listing you posted, instead managed to get one in Release Issue frame for a few $ more in an auction. I can't wait to see it :)

Nice score on the Ultime Franc, the packaging adds it - mine only came in a little cardboard/plastic coin holder, will keep an eye out for something a bit more fitting for this neat coin.
