Sri Lankan customs have seized two kilograms of gold from two men who had hidden the precious metal inside their bodies in an attempt to smuggle it out of the country.
The two Sri Lankans were caught just before they boarded a flight to the Indian city of Mumbai, customs spokesman Leslie Gamini said, adding that it was the biggest haul of gold they had found inside a person.
'Each man had 10 gold biscuits weighing 100 grams inside his rectum,' Gamini told AFP.
'They were easily spotted because they appeared to be in pain and could not walk properly.'
He said the gold, valued at nearly $US100,000 ($A107,359), was confiscated and the men were fined $US384 each.
He added that customs officials at Sri Lanka's main international airport had stepped up vigilance over the smuggling of gold to India after New Delhi raised import duties.
India, the world's biggest buyer of gold, raised duties last month on bullion imports for the third time this year as it battled to narrow a record trade gap and stabilise the rupee.
Gamini said seven Indian-bound passengers were arrested on Monday when X-rays showed 25 'metal objects' inside their stomachs.
'They include six Indian nationals and one Sri Lankan,' Gamini said.
'Two of them have passed four pieces of gold after being given laxatives. Others are still under observation.'

Where the "watery eyes" emoticon :)

With a kg of heavy metal hidden where the sun don't shine, i'm pretty sure i'd be limping as well, LOL

^^^ never knew that  that's funny, people must do it all the time if the one ounce buttons have a nick name lol

You can just imagine security watching them as they slowly and awkwardly shuffled their way up to the X ray machine grimacing like a prisoner in shackles. But hey even if they miserably failed, at least the black market is saying a big f*ck you to the Indian government.

Somebody's going to feel this one in the hip pocket

MUMBAI: Customs officials on Thursday recovered two parcels containing 4.7 kg gold from a toilet at the arrival hall of the airport.

A loader alerted the officials about the gold concealed in two packets that were left in the toilet. The smuggler may have abandoned it after noticing Customs officials.

In February, officials had found 3 kg gold in the airport toilet. In the past, two CISF personnel were arrested after they collected bags containing smuggled gold in the toilet and helped take it out of the airport. In another seizure, officials on Wednesday night recovered a 1 kg gold bar valued at Rs 25 lakh from duty-free shop employee Shoeb Saad. The gold was handed over by passenger Syed Abbas, who had arrived from Bangkok on Tuesday.

I guess the take-home message is if you buy any low premium bullion, soak it in bleach because who knows where it's been.

I don't think they went where you're thinking.

We're talking kilo gold bars here! lol
