Opinions on Silver Krugerrand coins?

Attractive and would certainly be nice silver to own BUT NOT AT THE PRICE IN YOUR LINK.

They can be had for around the price of other rounds and coins at a couple of dollars above spot.
As with a lot of silver coins and rounds ,always a buy at the right price.
 
I bought a few 2018 ones from a bullion shop in Singapore for $25 each. They developed a milky 'film' quite quickly. Not spots like older maples, but a film over a large part of the coin. Was not impressed. Maybe I got a bad bunch, I don't know.
 
The price paid above i would go for.
Incase you guys/gals did not look at the link they were selling for $40 Aud each and that's far far to high IMHO
 
That is a good price. I'll post some photos when I get home and dig them out, but that will be several weeks from now. I think I put them in capsules, I forget now. I live in a high humidity location not sure if that has an impact or not.

Yeah, nice coins but always a lower priced bullion coin.

You shouldn't pay much more for a Krugg than you'd pay for a silver Maple or Philharmonic... definitely not more than ASE or Brit.
 
Who makes them?

Rand Refinery, really? Because research told me there's a number of private mints making silver Rand Refinery rounds.
(The ones in my link seem like they're made by Rand Refinery).
 
I bought them as low premium silver coin, 2018 and 2019.
I am looking forward to at least own a 2017 SA Silver Proof Krugerrand 50th Anniversary.:) I will post soon in time.
 
I finally got my 2018 silver Krugerrands out. I bought 5 and had put them straight into capsules. However, somewhere along the chain some idiot has put their finger print all over 2 of the coins which has caused the milky film I was talking about. You can see the finger print as clear as day.

The other ones that were not mishandled are ok, but these are not high premium coins. I would buy more if the price was right, but if they were the same price as kooks I would buy the kooks every day of the week.
 
Actually the original poster is from the UK, so probably the best comparison would be Britannias. Personally I don't think they would be worth much of a premium over Britannias, but fun to own as a novelty.
 
I've always thought Krugs were pretty ugly coins. Your mileage may vary. Not worth a big premium though. Brits are just as cheap, and gorgeous.

To the other posters, they're made by Rand Refinery on behalf of the South African Mint. It looks like Baird is the sole official UK distributor, so you might find a better price there. I have one and I love it. But if you are talking volume, you should be aiming for bellow 10% over spot if you plan on buying coins that have no numismatic value. I guess it depends on your market and shipping and all that but in my case I believe my best purchase was around 7% over spot for a 10 oz silver bar from Asahi.

I do purchase other coins because I want to build a collection for my own fun, knowing it's money I am loosing but not caring about it ;) With that said, I would not purchase other Kruggerands now that I have one.
 
They arent collectors items and prone to milk spots same as other low quality government mints.
I'd pay a buck over spot maybe, or just buy generics. At least generic random mints stay nice looking over the years.
 
They aren’t competitive and the brand is tarnished by the very racist actions of the CURRENT South African government.

Even if the politics are stripped away and this is purely transactional - the bottom line it is a mass produced bullion coin and a bit more expensive that others in the same population

It probably depends where you are in terms of price. For example, here in Canada, Mexican Libertads are very expensive, but if I was in Mexico, it would probably be different.

Have you guys found a way to prevent milk spots on the coins? Does putting them in capsules help?
