[opinion] 2012 Singapore coin show proof panda

Has anyone got their coin that ordered through PandaAmerica?

I ordered the 5oz silver panda, paid via wire transfer but have not heard anything since. Tried to email them with no response. Just want to know when I can expect the coin.

As others have mentioned, the Singapore International Coin Fair was an active, fun show. Everyone, both collectors and dealers, that I talked to was very, very pleased with the event. It looks like in just two years the Singapore Coin Fair has become one of the major shows on the international coin show circuit. I suspect that many dealers who weren't here will have booths in 2013. I certainly heard regrets from several who didn't make it here this year. The show really had everything you could ask for including lots of coins, lots of visitors, lots of excellent dealers, lots of coins trading hands, and even lots of good food.

Thanks to all the Silver Stackers who came over to chat with me at my booth. It was great to meet and talk with you. I look forward to continuing our conversations next year.

Here are some pix of the event:

How many coin shows serve duck right inside the exhibit hall?

Dealers from all around the world, like Jocou of 11 Coins Co of Shanghai,
brought their coins to Singapore

A favorite of many young collectors was the coin press that
the Singapore Mint demonstrated at the show

There wasn't much rest for the dealers at this coin fair

I thought I read somewhere that they would not be sent till after the coin show. So expect them 10 to 14 days after the show ended that makes it about the end of next week we should be seeing the coins.
Question who going to send theirs back to the states for grading?

I will grade my 2 x 1 oz and 2 x 5 oz silver (ncs and ngc) thanks to a friends kindness.

wow ... nice pics Peter thanks very much for posting them !!! It sounds like everyone enjoyed the Expo, very happy about that except that I was not there :(

Guys about the Singapore Panda medals ... I called Panda America a few days ago and spoke to Vince as Will and a few others were out at the Expo and he assured me that medals would ship within 10 to 14 days.

I'm sure they all have to get back from the show and sort out all of the orders ... rest assured that we will all get out stuff :)

Oh yea and I'm curious ... I keep hearing that Chinese do not like graded coins but it seems every time I see pics from a coin expo/show there are more graded coins than OMP? :)

Also I noticed that all of the graded coins dogged the OMP/raw coins in the Stacks Bower auction a day ago :D

I know that personally I would not buy many of these high value coins in OMP ... Of course silver pandas I would but anything else would most likely be graded ... thats just me.

Sorry that you weren't. Maybe next year?

That's not completely accurate. I was surprised to see that one OMP coin outsold a 69. Also, 67s, and even 68s can sell for less than the OMP price at times.
Generally speaking, though, coins graded 69 or 70 brought very good prices.

Personally, when I take pictures of showcases I tend to shoot graded coins because it is easier to see what the coins are. That probably gives the impression that everything is graded, but it's more a reflection of my own taste than reality.

Thanks for clearing that up Peter ... maybe it's just that I paid more attention to the graded coins but it did appear that overall they did outperform the OMP/raw coins in auction.

In any case the Singapore Panda is an awesome medal and I'm sure many are happy to see it is "official" but I did not care either way, it is simply a beautiful coin for any collection ! :D

yes yes ... Hopefully I can make the show next year ... that would be very cool for sure !

Right now I'm settling for a week trip to the beautiful white sandy beaches of Florida for some fun in the sun with wifey and Tinky but my battle cry is Next Year Singapore ! :)

Also to clarify the issue, this medal is approved by top officials of China Gold Coin Inc. in Beijing.

Since the panda is the feature bullion coin of the mint, it is just not that simple to go and have any medal made with a panda on it. They guard the panda like fort knox.

China Great Wall in HK handles all dealings with overseas companies.

Peter Yeung of Panda America wrote this at CCF, hopefully this along with the COA will put the issues to rest of is it "official" ... :D

Another thing is I did not believe for one minute that any "joe blow" could just run out and contract one of the Chinese Mints to produce Panda coins for them as was alluded to earlier ... easier said than done !!! :D

Has anyone got any confirmation when these coins are supposed to be mailed out? I preordered five of them, and really got no info other than my card being charged.

Peter Yeung from Panda America says next week in china mint forum. They got stuck at Singapore customs, hence the delay.

Come to Papa, my little Panda's.

I'm soooooooo hanging out for these little babies to arrive at my doorstep :P

If they look as beautiful as the pictures, then I will be really impressed.

Panda America has begun shipping these Pandas as I just received my tracking number via email.
