Old mans collection - kooks, olympic heritage etc

Hey,

My names Simon, new to the fourm, was just after some help with my old mans collection.

So over the years dad collected these coins from all over the place. Here's what he's got:

3 of 1990 1oz kook proof issue
1993 1oz kook proof issue

1991 2oz kook proof issue
1993 2oz kook proof issue

1991 10oz kook proof issue
1993 10oz kook proof issue

1993 1kg kook proof issue

2 of 1995 Kook proof issue set - 1kg, 10oz, 2oz, 1oz
1994 Kook proof issue set - 1kg, 10oz, 2oz, 1oz

olympic heritage series coins - 1oz swimmer and 1oz runner.

Went to the local coin shop and he told me that the coins are only worth the spot metal value (though price he gave was well bellow spot), is this true?

Are any well sort after? So many kook coins its hard to tell.

Any info would be much appreciated.

They are worth what someone is willing to pay, most of that would be well over spot price, especially at the moment while spot is so low. You thinking of keeping it or selling it?

They're nice coins.
As a new stacker you may need to send first, or arrange a f2f meet, but definitely worth more than spot :-)

Hi Simon, welcome :)

As other have said they are worth a good deal more than spot depending on the condition, not unusual to see a good 1oz proof sell for $55-$65

There are so many different kooks i'm not sure which ones are more desirable from the 90s but I imagine you have a few rare coins in that lot :)

Tozak -My old man said he doesn't really care anymore. I see that the 1oz coins are collected by fair few people here think they are prob better with someone who cares for them rather than stored.

Assuming that you've been left these coins - read up on silver before deciding to part with any of them.

I suggest reading Michael Maloney's book - don't rush to sell, read up on why people buy silver in the first place.

If you do decide to sell, never accept below spot for any of them.
 
gold pelican - funny story actually, coins have been sitting around for a good 10 years and any time i asked about them everyone (family) said they weren't worth anything.

So dug them out and took them to the coin bloke whos eyes lit up when he saw them all..... especially the 1991 gold 1oz panda which he told me was only worth spot...

As I said before i'm not really into coin collecting especially silver, so think they might be better with someone who enjoys them.
 
These coins must have first been bought for some reason? I mean they are all 999 Silver in nice sized pieces. I mean the reason to buy them should be a good incite on a reason to keep them? I would suggest doing some good research before seriously considering selling them.

Hahaha You have no idea, it's not about getting hooked on a new hobby but it's about watching what you perceived as the whole world dissolve in front of your eyes and a hidden wealth of knowledge that has been accumulated for over 4000 years suddenly comes into focus and every aspect of your life can start to truly make sense. (Actual effects may differ from person to person)
 
by the way my dads still alive haha it's up to him what he wants to do just getting info for him to make a decision.

Tozak - the old mans collected a lot of different things... was big on gold and for some reason bought some silver

If the 1991 panda is bu in omp will go for more than 2000 to 2500 (small date or large date change the value)
If the 1991 is proof piedfort will go,for more than 4500
 
If you don't need the money I would hold onto them. If you do need the money I wouldn't sell them to a dealer, they have overheads and shop rent to pay plus they have to make a profit when they sell them.

If they gave you full value they couldn't make any money on them, but less than spot?!

Go elsewhere!
