Australian cars are sh*t. They're good for a few years and then they fall apart.

Jap or German for me thank you.

Yeah that's why most of the Commodores and Fords from the 1990s are still on the roads and every P plater wants a 1980s VK or VL Commodore.

Really? ;)

Apart from the ones that are crashed, obviously.

And yes, I'm generalising about P Platers, but it's a common theme amongst the ones I know in my extended circle of associates.

TE,

Back in 2000 the time had come for a new car.

Like many, i ended up with the old conflict of Ford and Holden. I had decided I wanted a car that would last until I needed to hand in my licence. I was 61 at the time and figures I needed a car that would do all things for a max of 20 years.

I chose the AU Falcon wagon with factory gas and all the bells and whistles, $37,000 cash all up!

I have now done 213,000 kms and only drive to the shops etc. It has been fully maintained and serviced by Ultratune (LUV 'EM!) and runs like a dream. I used to drive to the GC up the Newell twice a year, but always fly now. Full load of gear and the navigator over 1000 kms at 110+ Kmh. Never misses a beat.

They are usually a second a lap slower than Holden at Bathurst, but I am a FORD man all the way.

Yep....I actually recommended an AU to Julie W when she mentioned months ago whe was after a reliable car....... You can get them with around 150-200,000k's for like 4-k these days....... They really are a solid, reliable, cheap to run and maintain car.

Aussie Commodore a hit in the US

*Holden's crucial export program for the VF Commodore has got off to a promising start, with the first shipment of Chevrolet SS sedans driving out of North American dealerships last week.

*The Australian-built four-door has so far received glowing praise from the Northern Hemisphere. Several new owners have already taken to forums to express their content with the new model, essentially a left-hand-drive version of Holden's VF SS-V Commodore.

*The Chevrolet SS is similar in specification to the SS-V Commodore, but receives a more powerful 309kW 6.2-litre V8 engine, steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters and several cosmetic and internal enhancements.

*The four-door sedan is General Motors' weapon of choice in the NASCAR racing series, where the Australian four-door won on debut at Daytona. Chevrolet has not offered a rear-drive V8 sedan in the US since 1996.

Buy an Aussie car!

you know what is funny

I just looked at Chevy's website

and this car that sells for 60k+ here

is 45k there

a car that is build here and exported over there is cheaper to buy there.

I hope those thieving bastards go bankrupt

Front bumper bar was crap! :D

Bucket seats were comfortable.

Oh...and the throttle sticks on the 1600...nearly killed my Old Fart.

Also...they put the wrong rings in the engine...how they did that I'll be f..ed but... was fixed under warranty.

And the colour..."Green" Ooo that sucks. :P

One more kick in the guts for the Aussie car industry

Ford Falcon XD XE XF door handles

Ohh Tell me about it... XB/C's too. So much skin off the knuckles left inside falcon door skins.. all that rough bitumen sound deadner, sharp plastic clips etc, and then the brand new replacement snaps on a test try :(

A factory started up somewhere just making replacements. I believe they make them just like the OEM product... hard brittle cheese sprayed in silver metallic paint ! :/

But then don't get me started on Holden Bailey Channels

HeHe.. a mate of mine has probably half of the only working British Ford Thames vans in the country.
Slow as a snail, Can't get parts for 'em, rust faster than they can be repaired...and the mechanics just groan when he sputters into their driveway

One of 'em did have a legally engineered ford 250ci six between the seats... I reckon it'd would've done wheel stands in it's day. ;)
