Clearly just for oil  Perhaps, just perhaps they might be doing it for the reasons stated. If they didn't do anything and millions of people died at the hands of ISIL, they'd be condemned, if they do take action it's only for their own gain......

The airstrikes are solely to protect Obama's legacy.

Edit, GOLDPIRATE The USD is on the verge of breaking out to the upside, it is hardly in need of propping up. Look at the technicals. Fracking is making a tremendous difference in the US economy.

Could you give us a run down on how much energy/ water is required for fracking...It is no good getting oil if there is no profit in it. :)

Putting the information from the following articles together, it looks like a fracking well uses 5 million gallions of water over the life of the well. Sounds like a lot, but it is an average of only 1% of total water usage. Of course, the less water you have, the higher percentage is used for fracking. Lack of water, not water cost could be a future concern.

percentage usage of water for fracking is higher in Western US. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/05/02/s...rain-western-water-resources-study-finds.html

Just found this interview with Wilber Ross. At about the 2 minute mark, he states that it takes about 2 barrels of water to produce a barrel of oil.

Energy usage does not seem to be significant. I did a search and the only mention was diesel fuel to run the drilling rig.
