Another nice example from the NZ Mint with the issue of the Silver Fern and a real winner for a silver medallion coin

Great for any stacker to hold as part of the collection

PM if one of these maybe of any interest

problem with these... (A major problem) is that without a date my 2009 Silver Ferns are indistinguishable from any others..

They are the true UNLIMITED coins, for this reason i cleared out of these completely knowing they have no chance of appreciation.

If only they changed the die annually there would most proberbly of been a decent secondary market.. without these will always be a $2 over spot coin.

Shame as i like these rounds.

I just check mate Silverman99 :D

so he better sell to me :)

this bullion got no milk spot ;) and it does not pretend to be a numis either its just NZ silver fern

This is what I want from the Perth Mint.

A silver round, nothing fancy, nothing collectible, no ridiculous face value, no expensive finish, no capsules, no "limited edition".

Obviously the Lunars, kooks and koalas have their place but when you want cheap silver you have the bars or nothing.

Bars can be made by anyone, including some impressive offerings by those on the forum. The rounds offer a small amount of protection from forgery.

It would be OK to have a date on these, especially as I wanted one for 2011 as a gift, but there really is no need.

They may only be worth $2 over spot but for a low premium round I thnk they have a niche, shame they are too expensive to import over in any volume. I like the True Blues that were on offer on this forum for the same reasons.

What sort of volume do you have in mind

Still have a few available

I can fill the suitcase up if you wish to be the owner of such

Despite someone on the radio telling my wife and mother-in-law to buy gold, silver and a farm!!! I have not received any instructions to do so.

As 1 for 1 pointed out they would need to be within a few dollars of spot to make it worth while going through all the currency conversions and postage etc. Particularly as Australian Gual Metals Trust has some low cost rounds available locally.

I guess if the Aussie dollar was particularly strong against the NZ dollar then it would be well worth the effort.

Hi, yes i have nothing against them at all, and if they were only $2 over spot id probably own alot more.. but i paid around $5 over spot each from memory so for me they dont compete with canadian wildlife series moose and cougars at the same price, or Armenias, Somalias, Fiji takus or Kook restrikes.

cheers eh

oh, the nek minit meme ... lol
I saw a silver fern or two in person and wasn't impressed with the finish on them especially at the price the dealer was asking. If I'm going to pay that much over spot, I'd rather have the '49 Crown. Of which I have 3 or 4. I like those ones.

New Zealand Mint produces two silver bullion coins and two gold bullion coins:

1oz Silver Fern - No face value - Looks plain and boring
1oz Silver Taku - Legal tender Fiji $2 - Nice design
5oz Silver Taku - Legal tender Fiji $10 - I didn't know this existed until today. Same design as 1oz Taku.

1oz Gold Kiwi - No face value - Looks plain and boring
1oz Pacific Sovereign - Legal tender Fiji $200 - Nice design

Seeing as they cost the same, I would always choose the Taku and Pacific Sovereign over the Silver Fern and Gold Kiwi.

Correct until you say coin..

The silver fern technically isnt one, not legal tender - no face value, also no date. These are known as rounds or generic rounds or bullion rounds, usually are far less collectable and no mintage stats hence little oppertunity for secondary market appreciation.

Taku is however - and a great value for money item i would recommend to all, especially if presented in an either/aither scenerio.

RE: 5oz... i know some love this.. how is it in person?.. i like the big coins but the dragon seems better at the same price IMO (although my opinion is irrealavant to its future price).
