NZ Mint Colt m1911 coin

Hi folks.

Have only been into silver for a little over a month, and have decided to focus mostly on bars for long term stacking.

But also told myself that I'd consider coins/numis that catch my eye.

Have a chance to purchase one of these for a little over $100 USD. I think it is a pretty cool coin, but at over triple spot I'm not sure if it's a good buy.

Any opinions? Is it worth buying and sitting on for a bit?

Thanks--Bill

I wouldn't waste my money on this coin unless you just have to have one. Mintage of 20,000 and I don't see this as being in big demand. According to Euro collections this is the second coin in a series. Buy bullion coins with the 100$. Just my 2 cents worth. :D

I just had a real long post to put here.
but now you edited your post to say you didn't buy
yet before you said you did.

wont bother now

Well this is the advice I have been given :) by 2 of the oldest dealers in Melbourne :D
If your in OZ but Aussie coins
In NZ buy NZ coins ;)
In the States buy US coins
In Germany buy German coins
BASICALLY DON'T BUY FOREIGN CRAP ;) and especially new Sovereigns
Now I know probably 90% want take it in ,
But that's my strategy ,I couldn't flip my panda's on here ,had to sell them on ebay :(

Some numi products do well but I'm not sure about the 'controversial ones', like guns, religious ones or thoes american 'big game hunting' coins. I know they appeal to some collectors but i think it limits your market for resale. Thats the same reason I don't like the royal theamed coins I just think the fan base that you need to drive up the price on these numies is a little limited.
(only a very small opinion from a very small stacker.)

Footycard, I have no clue what you are referring to.

I edited my post to fix two typos:

#1 - I removed an "s" from "purchases" to correct the spelling to "purchase."
#2 - I added a space between $100 and USD.

If you look at the time stamps you will see I edited within 10 minutes of posting, which was about 9 hours BEFORE your post.

To the others who posted, thanks for the replies. I agree the market would be too limited to expect much of an increase in value. Now to figure out what to spend that $100 on...

If you like it and can get $100 pleasure out of it - Go for it.

If you only want max oz per $ - there are better options.

oh sorry, well this is what i think..

If you like guns then I think the coin is nice so why not.
if you go to a chinese resteraunt you wouldn't order just a bowl of steamed rice, you'd get prawns, or chicken aswell and a nibble for entre'
end of the day you still eat, just like bullion, you can eat more, but one needs more then just a fill sometimes.

anyway, your coin is sold out from the manufacturer, so it's already desirable as there is no doubt at least one person that went to their website and saw it out of stock, would pay a little extra to get one no?

then it's beautiful packaging, I think this area is taken for granted, the designs of the packaging of most are amazing, geez, a fancy box a chocolates costs $20, the chocolate is still crap.

so don't worry about your investment, i'm sure many here will tell you that the price of silver will go above $100oz aventually, so just in silver value your covered.

your also covering yourself by buying boring bars.
the best value silver of all, so investment wise your much better off then those that just stack bullion coins, as they are paying a higher premium for the coin but mintages in the hundred's of thousands.

so I think your doing it nice, investment + fun

Check out this one, awesome! $100? bargain!

I wouldn't worry about high end numismatics at all, unless that's totally your thing but I think numi's are a dying trend, like stamps, whereas collectable silver coins, for their theme are the way to go I reckon as it's easier to sell pretty then rarity, to the masses on places like ebay.

If your in OZ but Aussie coins

This obviously doesn't really count in collectable terms as you'd run out of things to collect pretty quick.
But as far as bullion coins go, this should be plastered on your forehead for when your look in the mirror in the morning
before you buy silver that day.
I've mentioned in another thread that I wanna spew up everytime I see an aussie stacker posting up a mailday of a megga box
of ase's or maples!
I really don't understand this, then in other posts they spruke the importance of the aussie $ and economy ect.
kidding themselves if their investment money goes to another countries mint.
what about if your silver does drop to $14oz? you've sent your hard earned fiat overseas into another economy
and in return you have didly squat!

I bet when it does go back to mid $40's then you'll sell for australian fiat and go buy more international bullion.
geese.

If you don't want it please point me in the right direction, I am a shooter as well as a stacker and want to add both the M16 and the 1911 to my collection, although the import of the M-16 may be an issue because of its presentation case
