Nah ... people are paying for the "special TARDIS packaging with the unmistakable vworp vworp sound." Let's face it, even carded Stock Horse's don't go "vworp vworp"! :lol:
 
I will sell anyone who wants one, one with a mystery number on. You don't know what the number will be until you buy it. And I will sell it to you for only $1000. :lol:

Seems to indicate that all the other prodicts (They even type in a New Zealand accent) wont have a Unique Certificate ???

I'd go even further and say this is for Dr Who collectors in general. eBay is a great format to sell to a wider market when it comes to popular culture coins, who might otherwise have not even known the coin exists. You've got to take the product TO the market, not wait for the market to find you.

Areas like Star Wars, Dr Who, etc often have a fanatical collector fanbase, and something like this would be considered a treasure

Its funny watching the stackers here scratching their heads over the rising price, they'll never understand the mind of a collector haha. It just ain't about the money :D

I think they are just trying to add some extra "hype" with their phrasing. It's not like they're going to be releasing two coins with #143 certs or anything haha
 
You guys are missing the whole point - with this coin you get a "personal letter to the winner from the Mint Master of New Zealand Mint." This is what's driving the price not the COA. :lol:

You have hit the nail on the head regarding the development of a wider market. As Head of Sales and Marketing of New Zealand Mint, I have been looking at ways that we can generate increased interest in our projects in what has become an increasingly crowded marketplace. I think we have a unique position in that we are a private Mint, but have a close relationship with our South Pacific partner, Niue, which has seen us work to release some interesting, perhaps non traditional, themed product. Our Ebay initiative is trying to see if (1) there is value in certain numbered product, and to try and understand what value that is, (2) to generate more profile and interest in a couple of recent releases that we have made. While I note the Dr Who focus, you should also note that there has been good bidding on a half ounce Tooth Fairy coin that we also offered.
You may not be aware that New Zealand Mint has a youth development partnership with Niue, and that right now there are two young folk down at Outward Bound, South Island of New Zealand participating in a leadership development programme, sponsored by New Zealand Mint. All profit from these auctions and from subsequent ones is being used to help us to develop and expand this sponsorship further.
I am awaiting the final outcome of this trial before we make a wider public announcement. Hope that helps

This right here is all I need to be all right with them reserving the first or specific numbers for themselves. This is a much more noble cause than any of us lining our pockets.

Charitable use of profits from the Dr Who auctions and other future such things is commendable. NZ Mint caused a lot of eyebrows to be raised and gave rise to some strongly non-positive reception
with the Dr Who auctions but the charitable use of profits totally reverses those considerations.

NZ Mint really should make some high-profile announcements regarding the use of the profits from these auctions to put the non-positive reception to rest.
