Been looking for a certain coin for ages. ( two once gold coin).

The only place could find one at a reasonable price was Germany.

So bought it. Paid by international banks transfer through a company ( cheapest one I could find not to bad on the exchange rate).


I was totally honest and put down price and what I was buying on the transfer form.

I've been called by two different agencies and both banks requesting information about the purchase. I also suspect I've been put on a list as well ( no not the chipmunk list either). All the questions are to do with Syria, Sudan and Korea. And what I want two ounces of gold for.

So far the transfer of money has be declined pending a decision from who know?

When I asked what legal right people had to do this I got a general statement about compliance!

I think I've just been declared a terrorist, which is funny.
 
Your in Perth but bought gold from Germany, must be a very nice 2oz coin

What happened to keep it simple and buy local? :)

I think you may have a few hurdles to get through, Bank compliance okay... but even Transit and Customs may also be another challenge to come

Keep us posted on how it turns out, hopefully you don't have ASIO agents running you off the road at night, lol
 
If either bank has been found guilty of fraud and/or money laundering just remind them of their double standards and deceit ...

Funnily enough the coin is originally from the perth mint! ( ox)

I'm ready for customs, but suspect I might have to pay GST. ( should be a good argument of numi vs bullion).

But was not ready for various government interventions.
 
What a joke, all that over a 2oz gold coin. Soon PM shops will be shut down. Can't blame you buying from Germany, 2oz ox and mouse impossible to get here.

you have been long enough,therefore you should have known better.there was a discussion about this how to "defend" yourself against customs and stuff.if you cannot find it ask house or silverpete :) they are really good at it.

one thing for sure you need to tell them that real currency is coming back to the country where it belongs and only worth $200...

Why the hell do the powers that be have to be so damned paranoid? We are told to look out for 'suspicious' behaviour.. well, who takes it upon themselves to suspect us all of dishonesty and subversion at every moment?? That's right, the vested interest power elites, who operate by turning us against one another, are the most suspicious bastards on the planet.

Drag I'm fully prepared for customs I actually have that topic printed off and all the relevant documentation and law ready to go. Thanks to the people who wrote that post by the way.

I'm not sure I can argue it is bullion as I have paid a small premium for the coin. Be interesting to see.

What I was not ready for was the banks own internal compliance, and various other government regulations regarding money transfers, especially for what is relatively such a small amount of money in the grand scheme of things!

Wonder if I had paypal the money if I would have had the same trouble!


chip I was just clarifying which list I was referring to. As your list is part of the lexicon on silverstackers I didn't want any confusion.

Well i'll be. Arrived home today as the DHL man arrived and gave me the package. Cleared customs with no problem.

I was prepared for an argument and had all the evidence and relevent laws/statues ready to go!!!

I thought DHL would have tried to slap me with a tax bill, but they did not.

As an aside a package from Germany took less time to arrive than a package from the east coast. I worry about the state of our postal service.
 
nickybaby good to hear, I have had good experiences with DHL like this, FedEx on the other hand..... not so much

good to hear.
Don't worry about being put on a permanent list, if you got your package then you're in the clear - it would have been a problem with another party (bank, seller).
Likewise, the fact you were questioned is another good sign you're not on a register, if you had done something worthy of their time you wouldn't get a call.

Lists are reserved for people caught importing illegal items, stuff up once and you better believe every item after that gets xrayed.

I've had a package from Germany in less than 72 hours. I will always be stumped as to how they achieved that.
But from Britain also, a little over 4 days.
