Next Dragoooooooooooooooon Release 4 October 2012

2012 Silver Australian Lunar Year of the Dragon Bullion Coloured Coins
The design for the 2012 Australian Lunar Year of the Dragon silver bullion coins features a
coloured representation (Red: 1kg, 10oz, 5oz, 2oz, 1oz and 1/2oz; Blue: 1oz; Silver: 1oz; Purple:
1oz; Brown: 1oz; White: 1oz; Yellow: 1oz; Black: 1oz and Gold: 1oz) of a dragon and a fireball.
The coin includes the inscription 'Year of the Dragon' along with the Pinyin pictograph pronounced
'lng' and meaning 'dragon'.

I have my plan.

The coloured dragon's will be snapped up..all of them will sell at lightning pace.

I think you are spot on Geewiz, it's going to be a sellout again with all things dragon being hugely popular..
Grab them while you can at pm prices!!

I'm looking forward to see what the gemstone dragon will look like. Wanted to keep one but depends on the price...

Sorry for the noobie question, am very green at this.
I see this:

2012 Silver Australian Lunar Year of the Dragon Bullion Coloured Coins

So they are different from the normal coloured proofs?
Would they be purchased through the PM Bullion website as normal bullion or through the other PM site?
Any idea when they are released?
Have the PM done this (bullion coloured coins) before? Would like get an idea of what they may look like.

Lots of questions and probably not many answers at the moment, will just have to keep an eye on these forums.

A big thank you to everyone on ss, can be a bit addictive checking out the posts, so much knowledge to suck in :)

Cheers

The coloured coins will be released on the 4th Oct

The coloured coins should be purchased from the here: http://www.perthmint.com.au/forthcoming-releases.aspx , not the bullion website.

If you are not already registered with Perth Mint in order to be able to purchase off from their website, make sure you do so now as it may take few weeks.

Thanks lamp. I better get registered asap then, so hopefully don't miss out :)

Are coloured coins not v popular ?? We hardly see any colored coins for sale/trade here. Are colored coins more expensive than the bullion coins ??

I'm still thinking of getting a few of these despite the spot price drop - which would be the best - coloured proof or gilded or typeset?

I reckon the typeset of four - has the 1oz proof in it.

GP do you know if the 5000 mintage of the 1oz proof covers the 1oz proofs which will be in the typeset?

Dont get excited about the "ruby" guys....

Its just Aluminium oxide or carborundum.... sapphire is the same but with other impurities giving the colour.

At those sizes its almost as valuable as sand...

Got a reply - the 5000 mintage is just the 1oz proof coins sold individually. Mintages for 1oz proof coins in the three coin proof set or four coin type set are separately quoted.

anyone going for the 1kg gemstone? Am seriously tempted but not much analytical evidence of how much the 1kg proof going well. Is there any drop in price due to spot predicted or same price no matter what spot?

Dont think i'll bother with the coloured dragons. May get 1 gilded though. Not interested in making massive profits from fellow stackers. I only buy coins i like to look at keep generally. if it cost me $100 i'll swap for something else that cost the same if i have 2. Not interested in ripping someone for 2 kooks for a dragon for eg. Thats just me though.

Not really ripping people off if it's sold auction style. Some people may not want to buy from PM and be happy to buy privately, it's a market economy after all :)

People can only be "ripped off" with lies...or a gun.
If someone makes an informed decision, then it's fair to them no matter what the general consensus may be.

Hard call.

It's weird that they are doing a coloured proof... normally they do a coloured specimen... are they doing the specimen as well or is this proof replacing it?

The coloured proof is supposedly only going to have a mintage of 10,000, but if they do a specimen version as well there is potentially another 170,000 lookalikes that will be in competition with it (?).

The Gilded has max mintage of 50,000, but not all of them will come with the individual display case.

If the typeset only as a mintage of 1,500 I would definitely go for that.

I might pickup a coloured proof on the day as well if I get the chance, but I have already placed a preorder for a large number of the Gilded dragons, personally I think the Gold highlighting on the Silver coin will look great on the dragons (IMO better than coloured). The Gilded haven't been that popular in the past, but given the unprecedented demand for the 300k bullion mintage I think there will be enough overflow to see them sellout quickly and achieve a reasonable premium, even if it's only 20-30% over purchase price in 6 months I would be happy with that.
Thanx for the thoughts, what about the 1kg gemstone?

Thanks for all the replies to my question.
I will try to get a typeset and maybe some gilded ones. I also think the gilded dragon should look quite striking and wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't sell out quick.
With a bit of luck the dragon mania will have died down and buying online will be a bit easier? :/
