Perth Mint has announced to distributors today that the following coins will be prioritised for manufacture:

2013 Australian Kookaburra 1oz silver bullion coin
2013 Australian Koala 1 kilo silver bullion coin
2013 Australian Kookaburra 1 kilo silver bullion coin

The following coins have been temporarily suspended from wholesale order, and may be in short supply for the time being:

2013 Australian Lunar 1 kilo Year of the Snake silver bullion coin
2013 Australian Lunar 10oz Year of the Snake silver bullion coin
2013 Australian Lunar 5oz Year of the Snake silver bullion coin
2013 Australian Lunar 2oz Year of the Snake silver bullion coin
2013 Australian Lunar 1/2oz Year of the Snake silver bullion coin
2013 Australian Kookaburra 10oz silver bullion coin
2013 Australian Koala 10oz silver bullion coin
2013 Australian Koala 1/2oz silver bullion coin

First I've heard about it. Focusing on 1oz size just means we can make more - lots of sizes and you just have to stop machines to switch over. Good news as the more ounces we sell the more the price is supported.
 
No, just some delays on wholesale orders, but they can still be ordered.

Note that this announcement is for wholesale customer - so expect this to start to impact supplies at resellers. 1oz and 1kg production is being ramped up at the expense of other sizes, presumably as this is more efficient (look at how low mintages of 5oz and 10oz 2012 coins were). Better to focus on making what 98% of the market wants while volumes are extreme.

Bars are produced at an entirely different division of the mint, and this decision has no impact on bar production.
 
why are they prioritizing kilo rounds? wouldn't it make sense to get more 1oz stuff out? sad because i just ordered kilo koala's

Hummers cater for the european markets... some tax thing
 
The mint has advised distributors today that this suspension has been lifted. Some coins are available to order now, everything should be flowing again from the mint by 24th June.

Might still be some delays in stock arriving at distributors based on when orders are placed etc.
 
The mint will start taking orders for the following from next monday 17th June:

10 Oz 2013 Snakes Silver Coin
1/2 Oz 2013 Snakes Silver Coin
1/2 Oz 2013 Koalas Silver Coin

And will start taking orders for the following from 24th of June:

5 Oz 2013 Snakes Silver Coin
