New solar cells

Nothing new here - was well known when I was working with high power lasers in early 1970's
Check the power density required >10 Megawatts per square cm. !!

Note the relevance of 'NON - CONDUCTING' materials.
Silver is unfortunately one of the best conductors so doesn't work - sorry to be the bearer of bad news
so don't go out rushing to buy the shiny stuff on this article.

Just read the article.

Yeah they may be able to do it without silver, but its a long way off. Also, they only achieved efficiency as good as current average solar cells, so not a big threat at the moment. But if improved could be better than silver. But again, that would be a long way off.

wait, so is this article saying they may possibly not need silver in solar panels?

No - some types of solar panels MAY benefit from using silver products but this article is not about solar panels.
It describes the magnetic properties of matter when irradiated by intense light.
Why on earth someone speculated about the use of this effect in solar panels is strange.
There is more chance of generating power from the proteins found in coloured jellyfish.

May be we need to start stacking Coloured Jellyfish !

Let's bust the CoJelMex!
