I saw a TV documentary on how the licensed Papal tailors do their thing. As soon as the process to elect a new Pope starts, the tailor firm makes up three entire different sets of robes and clothing -- one each in sizes S, M and L. That way, they've got the whole wardrobe (which takes quite a lot of time and expense to put together) ready to go the minute the election is concluded.

Those wily Cook Islanders probably had the design for this coin ready to go and then just Photoshop'ed in the head of whoever won the election. The coin even looks like it was designed that way, too. The head looks too small for the torso and it's jammed all the way over on the right side of a too-big collar.
 
I think so too. This pope was not even among the favourites, so probably they just changed the head next minute after the election :)
 
Good call, X-ray. I hadn't seen that picture of the new guy. Wow -- even in real life, he still looks like a high-speed Photoshop cut-n-paste job done without adequate attention to scale and detail. Had me fooled.

If you don't see any more posts from me, you'll know I got struck by lightning for that statement...
 
I think they have a project/design ready (in place) but not the coin itself. If you ask them for immediate dispatch I am quite sure the answer will be that you need to wait at least 2 weeks or so :) as they mint it now.
 
Surely is like you said Acme! Of course they are selling the coin based on the artwork computer generated image.
But they have been fast anyway :)

I am not entirely sure but I think they need to amend this project anyway :) I think the name should be "Francis", not "Francis I" but I am not a catholic church expert
 
You are correct Acme - until there is a second Francis elected (Francis II) the newly crowned pontiff will be known officially as Francis, not Francis I.
 
The linked image changed at the source (power coin), indeed now it correctly shows "Franciscus" not "Franciscus I".
I think that mint revised project in time or they have to melt some silver :P
Anyway, not even FRANCIS is the right name, but "FRANCISCO" (or "FRANCICUS" in Latin).

Whatever he is called, I already like him, from the simple actions he is doing already in the first days, like travelling by bus :)

Just found out this is a CIT product, which explains a lot. I'm sure they would have the type of relationship with the Cook Islands - given the amount of stuff they produce under that nation - that they could put this image out as the upcoming design with relative safety of knowing it will be approved. Very much doubt they'll be worrying about vatican approval though ;)

They'll probably be using the same obverse (queens head) dies as for the Benedict resignation coin, so it will take half as much time to get ready to strike and they can basically start shipping as soon as the first coins are struck, hence why Power Coin can say they'll be ready in 2 weeks! Good old CIT :D
 
Anyone knows what metal the coins are made from and the mintage. How many country were to
issue the official coinage?oh what size as well??

Good to know it is a CIT product, now I am 100% sure about the quality that will not disappoint me :)
