I don't frequent the forums but my mates are texting me all day about it I just don't give a shit right now I've been stuck overseas alone for 10 months and I'm trying to get back to Aus next week. I'm completely fked myself.. And angry at the world for a lot of other reasons.. Don't mind me.

Millennials don't have it all that hard yet. But they are going to live through the next war and social collapse and I feel for them. No-one is blameless here, none of us of whatever generation had an instruction manual and civilisations have cycles unfortunately. I agree with you that Boomers were not the greatest parents but I think that Generation X were the ones that were the really poor parents that did leave the Millennials rudderless.

Agreed and I put it down to education levels and generational wealth transfer that kicked off with the Boomers (and end of pre Boomers gen), as that was the first real urban generation to see some wider level of tangible inheritance from their parents who were able to buy / build a house for themselves post WW2 and leave something for their kids (Gen X) apart from a fob watch and some unpaid bills...fast forward and many more Gen X's benefited / are benefiting from the same wealth transfer (2nd gen) but as busy professionals, many took / take the easy route and threw money / trinkets / IT at their children to solve a problem rather than have the conversations (or just spend time with them) that instilled some values and need for hard work, moderation of needs & wants plus self reliance (which my pre WW2 parents instilled in me both verbally and in practice) rather than expecting it to be handed to them on a silver plate.

Like I said there was plenty of good boomer parents, but the stats arent good on things like Medicating children, Divorce rates, alcoholism and so on. that sort of thing plays a big part, so boomers cant create a monster and then complain that the monster wants to destroy you.

which in the grand scheme of things, being a good parent and family man or woman is the biggest achievement in life.
the generation before boomers, they were the ultimate. those guys were the greats, and at least I had grandparents of that generation to look upto. they had real achievements, good family values, built things, worked hard and the list goes on and on with that generation.

I completely agree Oddjob. And to balance things out I will say some positive things about the Millennial generation.

The thing that stands out for me about millennials, particularly as someone who has employed them is that I think that they are nicer people than we were at the same age. Millennials in their 20s were kinder, more polite and worked better in groups than those of us from the previous generations before them. We were rougher and more punk and ruder in general I think, harder on each other and we took a lot of risks.

And certainly as an employer when we got a good millennial it was like hitting the jackpot - A well sorted and put together millennial employee is one of the best things that a business can have hands down. If I had to generalise I would say that the millennials are a brilliant generation that were betrayed by their educational institutions and then they also found themselves having to contend with devices, predatory AI algorithms that do not have their interests at heart and social media which are things that no previous generation ever had to contend with. The millennials had to figure out how to deal with the little Satan from Apple and Google in their pockets and it hasn’t been easy.

And now we have a real problem and this one definitely came from parents - the modern fetishising of comfort seeking and hyper convenience. We have reached a point now where it I is considered cool and desirable to sit on a sofa and to control our media, room lighting and every thing else with our smart phones, to have food carried from a restaurant that is 400m away by a person on a bike and to not even bother to learn how to operate a motor vehicle. We are becoming lazy and device addicted comfort seekers and it will not end well.
