Oh, worth noting that in above pics the water drops are on the outside of the window.
 
I bought 2 of the 5oz coin. One of them is visibly perfect but the edge of the capsule has a chip. Royal Mint has posted a replacement capsule. The other coin is of sub-standard quality with milky clouds on both sides of the coin especially near the alphabets. Have informed the mint and will be returning it back for a replacement this weekend.

Why not do a swap and send the 5oz back to Royal Mint in that defective capsule? :p
On a side note Royal Mint just dispatched my first replacement coin... Keeping my finger crossed this time.
 
Hi SilverPete. Do you realize there is a chip on the capsule just above the "999" on the reverse side ? I had the same problem as I mentioned in my earlier post.

You are right! I didn't look at the capsule itself closely before. Now that I look at it, it seems a bit like they made multiple capsules together and then snapped them apart.
 
SilverPete. Just email them and they will send you a replacement capsule. For its price, the coin should be perfect.
 
Received my 5 oz today. No milk spots. However, there are some shinning mirror finishing spots on matte surface, such like show in the below photo:
1. on the edge of the globe
2. on the edge of the "V"
3. on the edge of the coin
Are the problem serious or not?

In my view, I don't see these as serious problems. To compare, I recently got 3 proof coins from the US Mint and 2 of them were minted so that the rim was very thin on one side or on one coin, non existent at all in one (easily noticeable by eye) spot . That is my idea of a serious problem on a coin. Of course I returned those 2 that had serious rim issues.

There is a bright spot at the "V", some at the globe, and there are light scratches at the rim of the coin (the rim has a thin matte ring circling the coin). I certainly do not recall seeing these imperfections on my first coin (could very well be there, the unboxing excitement of my first coin might have masked any flaws). These imperfections are minute and only visible at very close scrutiny of my coin.

Decided to keep this coin but cancelled my plan to get a second 5oz 2014 proof Britannia.

APMEX had 10 1 oz proof britannia in stock for a day for $119, about $10 cheaper than Royal mint. I believe they were bought by one customer together the same day.

APMEX has the 5 oz for $699. Much more expansive than buying from royal mint directly (about $540).
 
$119 is a good price for the 1 oz unless you live in a state where APMEX charges tax...then it may no longer be a good price.

As for a 70 graded 5 oz silver proof 2014 Britannia....I very highly doubt that there will ever be a bargain price for these. I have already seen one listed on eBay....for about $1,700....and that was the only one in the past several weeks that I've seen.

Perfect graded 70's for sale will be seldom and costly I think.


EDIT: Just checked ebay now and I stand corrected, there's one selling for $1,500. I may have to jump on this one. :)

Some member mentioned that a grade 70 2013 5 oz proof britannia auctioned for $4xx on ebay this summer.

So wait a year or 2 .... Cross fingers, and please do not bid against me at that time. :)

Check the brown outer box that comes with the coin... what's the date of mintage? Mine shows 02/09/2014 (2nd Sept) and my COA number is 286.
Maybe we got the same batch... :lol:
