New 2014 Proof Britannia is an absolute beauty

Agree with you. Sent 750 for grading all came back PF69/70... Sounds fishy unless RM has very strict quality control.

Only way to tell that is for someone who bought the limited presentation packaging to send their coin for grading. If it turns out to be less than PF69 then confirm there is foul play involved.

I suggest you wait for latest update from mmissinglink in regards to how Royal Mint suppose to handle this mintage issue.
If PF69/70 are selling at similar price as the original mint packaging then no point go for raw coins... Unless you prefer raw over graded.

P/s: if presented both options I will get the graded ones. NGC grades have much higher value over that fancy leather box.

I generally agree with this but I wonder then if a lot of the OGP version coins don't get sold, might this mean that their final sales number is low and therefore might this increase the value somewhat of the OGP version?

Still, I tend to agree that high graded PF69 or PF70 coins are more appealing to many collectors.

I have just asked the associate I am dealing with to divulge the name of the firm who has purchased the 750 coins that were all graded. I hope to get a response soon.

We will never know what is the sales figure for the OGP, but one thing is firm: there are already 750 PF69/70 coins out there and maximum mintage definitely is 750 and above.

Plus Royal Mint indicating over 60% sold that means at least 360 out of 600 OGP already committed. That means total mintage figure should be around 1000/1350... And in Royal Mint's release of annual mintage reports we will only know how many proof Britannias sold, there won't be detailed breakdown on First a Strike or OGP.
 
Received both my 1oz and 5oz proof Britannia today. Compare to the 2013's the 2014's are so much better. Very impressive strike and I absolutely dig into this year's Britannia design.

By far the first high relief Britannia. The 5oz has this convex surface in which the "globe" sinks in the centre thus lady Britannia becomes extremely high relief and she just stands out from the whole design.

Sweet coins! I can only imagine that the 5 troz gold would be majestic. So what is wrong with the coin/s that you have to have them replaced?
 
My 1oz proof was perfect, but the 5oz has very minor stain spots on the Britannia side. On the Queen side there are some stain spots but there is also a patch of milk spots at the "DEF" wording. I'm arranging a return to Royal Mint and I have requested if I can have a PF70 since they have 750 of them.

I am not going to accept a less-than-perfect coin since there are so many being graded PF70! :mad:
 
Bummer! Maybe your hunch is right that the group of 600 are the rejects and the 750 sold to a third party company and slabbed were cherry-picked. :(

Will have to wait for Royal Mint to get back to me. However if it is a perfect coin this will be to-date my favourite Britannia coin (from 1997-2014).
I have this 5oz proof in front of me... have been staring at it for the past hour! :D :D

Notice how the coin is thicker at the sides and curve inwards to the centre, just like Perth Mint high relief kooks/lunars/koalas?

Is the 1 troz the same way? Or is it just the 5 troz? (Concave in the center)

1oz is flat just like regular proof coins, and Lady Britannia's bottom is less 3D compared to the 5oz. The 1oz is decent but the 5oz is superb.
 
At least the stain spots aren't on the beauty with the Calimero helmet.
Although, from what I've read, some people seem to like spots on beauties. Although I don't remember if they were talking about stain or milk.
 
Thanks for the info on high relief 5 troz compared to 1 troz. I will be on the watch out and see if I can snag one of the 5 troz PF70UCam coins. :cool:

Might have spots on the lady but since she's matte finishing it is difficult to spot them as compared to the mirrored surface. I examined my coin.. looks like a PF70 if it comes without the stains.
 
Wow, really great pictures yrh0413! Better than my pics and I thought mine were good! :)

I will need to re-examine mine more closely under higher magnification. The loupe I used was a 2 or 3 X loupe. I probably should break out the 8 or 10 X loupe since the spots you found were quite small and could have been missed my first look.

My defects are obvious to naked eye. If you look at all my photos the dots next to the lion's front leg and the dot next to the letter "E" are obvious on all my photos.

Royal Mint has requested me to send my coin back to them. In our reply it was mentioned that the QC staff examine the coins with naked eye and not with a magnifyer... If your coin looks perfect to your eye then you got a perfect copy my friend. :)
