Sorry, there's way to many unreliable mintage figures for all sorts of coins floating around out there.

It was an official letter from the Bavarian Mint (letterhead, signatures, dated etc.) given to a dealer who's firm is exclusive to the Bavarian Mint. I was shown the letter and asked, as a professional courtesy, to not name names and to adjust the mintage numbers up or down to the closest 10,000. I saw the actual letter myself.

Best guess is that they had leftover 2011 coins. When the 2011 was nominated as a top ten finalist for silver coin of the year, it appears that they made a lot of extra coins. Then when it didn't win, future sales likely slowed. So, with extra 2011s on hand, no need to mint 2012s for a while.

He's said it was written correspondence from the mint, isn't that enough or do you think he's a liar?
Scanning a copy would make no difference. If he WAS lying he could easily photoshop a fake letterhead, etc
Somalia Elephant mintage numbers: Link to third party website. The only mintage numbers we differ on is 2012. They may be right and I could be wrong. Won't be the last time nor the first.
