From Cairns, a coastal town
Came a man of great renown
An all on SS knew, that when cyclones didn't blow,
That southern cross would go
So adventure drew him west
To put his family to the test
Living off the refrigerator and land
To feed his little band
He will teach them to hunt and fish
Like the pirates did of old
And not to dream of silver
But keep looking for the gold
He like a little rumbo, coconut and lime
Up there in the crowsnest he spends a lot of time,
But out here in the backblocks, way beyond
you'll find SX sitting fishing for barra in every creek and pond
Some days amongst the mangroves you can hear the claws of giant crabs gnawing
And there SC be walking then crawling
To catch the might beast
Feeding the whole family with a mighty feast
He has to protect them from the cattle trains
As well donkeys and camels that roam amongst the plains
Scorpions, snakes and spiders are almost anywhere
So he has to teach the young uns to always take care
At last there is the nightime and the stars they shine so bright
And the owl up in the gum tree sitting tight
To hear the sounds of nature before sleep gives you all the nod
Then dreaming of the dreamtime when everything seems odd
But back here on the SS, it remains the same,
We miss him here already,SX be his name
He might well be gone for six months or bloody more,
So when you return M8, the silva price might well be past two score.
