A Boring Night eh?

It looks like we all need to recharge our brains with another exciting episode of....

"SCIENCE WITH TURK!"

Crew, just for academic interest, I compared the relative prices and densities of copper, silver and gold today, and here is my way of putting it all into perspective.

Imagine a large spool of copper electrical wire...

910_cuwire.jpg

Now, imagine a 140-meter length of that same copper wire.

If you exchange that copper wire for a strand of silver wire with the same thickness and having the same monetary value today, it would be a silver strand 94cm long. Not bad.

Then, if you exchanged that silver wire for a strand of pure gold wire (of the same thickness as the other two metals and having the same cash value), it would be a little golden strand exactly 1cm long.

Or, if you prefer, here's another way of looking at it...

If the copper wire was 1 meter long, then the silver wire would be just 6.6 mm, and the golden wire would be a very tiny 0.07mm long.

Sigh! No matter how you slice it the gold is always pretty tiny.

But going the other way if you have a 5-gram solid gold ring that's worth the same as 32kg block of copper today.

That's a lot of metal to hang off one finger, isn't it?

I hope you found this episode of "Science with Turk" to be both educational and informative.

Tune in again next week when we explore the burning question: "Homeopathic Colloidal Gold Is it Really Just a Fiat Medicine?"
