Mexican Libertad or US American Eagle ?

Was the premium on the 1kg Libertad as ridiculous as what APMEX is listing?
If you actually look at the selling prices of the PL 1kg Libertads, I believe you'll find that the price on Apmex is actually pretty good. Years with mintages over 4x this year have sold for $1800+ on feebay. I expect the 2013 PL Kilo to be a $2,500+ coin in another year or so.

There is a BU 1kg Libertad, but only distributed in the European market and to my knowledge there has not been one released for 2013.

2013 mintage for the 1 kilo bu Aztec Calendar and Libertad are very low (500 and 400 respectively). That's way lower than the production of 1 kg bu Kooks, 1 kg bu Lunars, 1 kg bu Koala, 1 kg bu Noah's Ark, and even lower than the 1 kg Panda (which has a mintage of 20,000).

2013 may be a key date for these two Mexican coins due to such low mintages.

For such scarce, low mintage, and beautiful 1 kilo coins as the Aztec Calendar and Libertad, in my view, it's a much better investment than those other 1 kilo coins as the premiums on the low mintage Mexican coins will likely shoot considerably higher than any of those others mentioned above.

I'm partial...I bought a 1 kilo Aztec...it's stunning. I have no regrets having paid the high premium than I would have if I bought a 1 kg Koala or whatever..

Yeah I need to buy myself at least 1 kilo Mexican coin someday. Aztec Calendar looks amazing.

Buy yourself one when you next turn 1 year older

Good idea. :) That happened recently but don't have the money, so I guess I will have to wait a little less than one year. :/ :)

This will make for a sweet birthday gift indeed. Too bad my birthday only comes around once a year! :)

A 1kg Libertad is at the top of my want list! Thanks guys!

Libertads - of course.
SP: 1/2 oz readily available in Aus, but 1/4 oz tend to sell out quickly after release.

I must be blind cause I have never seen them for sale here, or at least at Bullion Bourse. I could be blind... where can I find 1/2oz Libertads?

I actually bought a kilo Libertad as a 40th bday present a month ago, took the sting out of turning 40--with 400 mintage....... :D

Btw, is there any difference between Mexican kilo Aztec calendars or only year changes on coin (and packaging)? I was looking different years releases on phone but didn't see any difference. Maybe because I was watching on phone. :D

All the same since its introduction in 2007. Packaging seems to have stayed the same too.

2007- 300
2008- 1,000
2009- 1,000
2010- 1,500
2011- 1,500
2012- ? Unable to find any mintage figures
2013- 500 on according to APMEX, 400 elsewhere

Silver Pauper- BB usually have them but currently out of stock. Should be back in soon. Libertads in general aren't up for sale too often, fractionals even less so.

House, thanks for info! :) I think that mintage numbers for last 2 years are smaller though, 400 each year. :)

It's better I stop thinking about it as the evil "Buy it" Gollum voice inside me is getting louder and louder... :)

House,

You are going to cost me a lot of money, I can just tell!

Can you confirm the years and mintages of the 1kg Libertad? And is there an online 'authority' for the Libertads?

Thanks,

Have read that the mintage is smaller but any indication of 2012's actual mintage number alludes me. APMEX usually provide the numbers in their description but none for this year...

This is from Banxico website
GeAhKB4.png

2011 was only sold in Europe and think the mintage was 1,000 for the P/L.

A giant Kilogram silver coin, with a proof-like finish was added in 2002, and the mintages have gone from 1820 in 2002, to a low of 500 in 2005. Sometimes these kilos fetch huge premiums sometimes they are a few hundred over melt. The Libertad market is highly volatile and due to its low mintage, can be a very exciting series to try to stay on top of.
Proof Libertads are among the most difficult and valuable of any modern proof silver coin. They started with a proof set in 1983 that came as part of a government set, with a mintage of 998. Then there were no more proofs produced until 1986 (the most common year, with 30,000 minted)

Comprehensive list of Proof mintages here

Fact of the Day- Libertad fractionals were not made in 2012 but were reintroduced again this year.

400 is the confirmed kilo mintage this year.

I might have a few more of these on deck if anyone interested......

My preciousssssss..... :P I've spent a lot this year on silver. Could afford one kilo at least. :)

Will see how the end year budget will look like. Would maybe buy one as birthday gift for someone. :)

There's no shame in self-giving a birthday gift. I've done it every year....several times a year! :)

.

:D Me too. ;) :D I would actually maybe buy it to someone, but I know that one person would be much happy receiving it. Me. ;)

Plata pura. Can't sound sexier than this! :)

And reverse on Mexican coins is almost nicer than obverse. :) F***ing a! :)
