Melting jewellerly

Hi guys,

Can anyone point me to the direction of a jeweler who could melt down some gold jewellerly into a nicer piece? Also, how does it work if you have multiple difference karat's of gold to melt down into one piece?

Has anyone has any experience doing this? What did it cost?

Sounds expensive.. why not just sell for melt.. than take your fiat and buy something? anything else will cost you $$$ ( jewellers markup x XXX)

Mum has atleast 2 or 3 ounces of jewellery and has been saying that she want's to melt it into a few nice pieces for years so this is more for her. Unless she wants some sort of custom design I think selling and buying something nice with the money would be her best bet. Do jewelers really charge a fortune for it?

To ask a jeweler to melt gold and then create 3 unique peices.. yes you could safely say that will cost a fortune.. custom always does.
 
Agree, better to sell old pieces for melt and buy new or second-hand.

I have bought some second-hand jewellery from pawnbrokers before and got it much cheaper than retail.
 
You could get 5% above spot for your unloved bling from a reputable gold buyer; maybe a bit more if you take some good pics and flog them here.
Would help mitigate the high premiums that jewellers charge in Oz.
Selling it to jewellers at their melt price is code for below spot. :P
