Melbourne scene in 2020?

I haven't bought much in recent years and mostly used to buy from Peter Davis (RIP).

Who are the reputable and/or low margin dealers in Melbourne these days? Mainly interested in nuggets/roos but don't mind sovereigns, krugers, etc. Not so much XAG.

I haven't logged in for a while, I sense there have been legal changes? Do you need more than to produce ID for purchases under 5k? Has taxation changed on 99% bullion?

Can I ask when he passed away and how? I wasn't aware

Its been a few years now @silver-Itt, have you been out of town?

I dont wish to cast aspersions on those that are departed, but I think he liked his alcohol
a little more than was good for him ( as a lot of us in this country unfortunately do).

Yes, I miss Davis too, it was always an interesting experience buying from him or selling to him (provided you could get hold of him).;)

Another thing I miss is his excellent website, which listed his buy/sell ratios on all popular gold and silver items.
It was the best in the country bar none, pity none of the other dealers cant come up with something even remotely similar.

I've been working on it
Look out for it next year :D
It will be " In memory of Peter Davis "
So many of us have learned so much from the man over the years ;)

You could have fooled me, spanner.
I did not even know that you were a precious metals dealer.
The only things I have seen you selling on this forum have been vinyl recordso_O

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

I don't recall the details but he had health issues. It was about three years ago. When I spoke with Rick he said it didn't come out of the blue, at least that was my impression.

One of the funny things about buying from him was you'd never know when you get a hold of him. There were no "business hours". That and watching shocked people be told to go elsewhere if they didn't like his (lack of) customer service. :D

The website like his should be easy to develop so as long as you have a reliable API for spot prices. Not sure what his basis was (e.g. Kitco, Perth Mint).

Thanks for the responses!
