Managed funds

Decided to have another look at managed funds but don't really know much. What do you think of the Vanguard managed funds? The buy/sell spread is 0.12% and the annual management cost is 0.9%. Can you reasonably expect to be ahead in the medium to long term despite fees like that?

I recently bought into ALF its out performed the market since June, http://www.asx.com.au/asx/research/company.do#!/ALF

Its not a managed fund as such but its got a nice yield and performs well in a bear market

I was looking at the funds in order to avoid going through a broker, though I do like those market tracking etfs

My Favorites are: Australian Foundation (AFI), Milton (MLT) and Argo (ARG).
