Just a quick note to see if anyone hear of this happening. Here's the link to an article:
http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/m...00-of-bullion-at-gunpoint-20121214-2bdcf.html
Can I make a few suggestions for people on here:
1. Be careful what you write in forums regards your little hidey holes, etc. You think you are anonymous but you are not.
2. Get a PO Box for purchases to be sent
3. If you do store at home, get a peep hole and never answer the door if you don't know who it is (even better, install an intercom and ask the person to state their business)
4. If you must keep your bullion in your own possession, it is better to store with a family member who does not participate in online forums or store with someone else who you trust
5. Install a cheap CCTV camera at your front and rear doors
6. Insure your metals - when the price rises, these robberies will only increase so be alert
7. Don't brag to anyone about your metals
8. Better to try not to convince friends of buying metals (then they know you have them) and if you ever fall out one day, then... you don't know who else they know, perhaps some unsavoury types. If you must give advice, then say, I stack, but tell them you always store your bullion in safety deposit box, etc
While these forums are great for sharing info, etc, they are also a great tool for professional thieves so don't be paranoid, but be on your guard. BTW - if the victim is a member here, sorry to hear of your loss.
Adios
