Lottery announced for 2016 Lunar Skull coins!

The long-awaited 2016 Lunar Skull coins (500 proof and 2,000 BU) will be released soon.
SM Mint has announced a lottery for 100 pairs of proof and BU coins that will be sold at a special,
discounted price before retail sales begin. This is to ensure that the coins are distributed widely
and not all gobbled up by flippers buying large quantities. Only one entry per person.

It'll be interesting to see how these sell - I mean there's a lot of hype around them but it seems that only the Proof versions sell. There are still BU copies of the original year of the sheep available

Not to say I'm not going to try the lottery, I missed out on the proof last time!

My guess is the main difference in terms of sales is the mintage difference.

I actually really like the bullion version. It's very, very rare (perhaps truly unique) that a bullion coin is individually serialized on the coin itself as in this bullion coin series. I don't know of any other bullion coin that is individually serialized on the coin itself.

Sure, there are a few proof/numismatic coins other than the Lunar Skulls proof coin (and there are medals which have a distinct serial number struck into the medal) which have a serialized number stamped into the coin but no bullion coin that I'm aware of. This seems to be a first.

I look forward to ordering my proof and BU set of the 2016 issue.



Incidentally, the bullion version is definitely sold out from the supplier/SM mint.

I just go and email today that I won. So did a few of my friends. Was this played off like a scam where almost everybody wins? Or is this worth buying at this price

I won this as well, did anyone not? Doesn't seem like there is much interest. Also why the hell is there no photo yet. The price of $150 US doesn't feel like a special introductory price, it's more then the combo cost last year!

Until they turn up for sale on ebay all from one seller at over the lottery RRP who didnt even need to be in a lottery to secure "any", its all part of the scam!

People are now going into a lottery for a chance to buy coins they dont really like at a high so called discount issue price all in fear they will miss a bargain!

What makes these coins seem well worth the $150US lottery discount price? The people who buy them at the lottery discount price :)

Wasn't last year's release price $89 proof & $69 BU, plus shipping?

Guess one is saving $8, anyway..


Gonna have to see the design & release price.. Price too many too high, even for a nice design & good minting quality, and I'm out.

On the plus side, a cool Monkey design = renewed interest in the Goat.
