Long term storage

Hello all. I'm a silver newbie. Looking for info on long term silver coin storage. Thought I read somewhere that it's not good to store silver in plastic? (long term) Is it okay to store in the mint tubes silver eagles come in? Also, has anybody had trouble trying to sell say 10 year old silver eagles for over spot price? Just trying to see what's all involved. Thanks for any help.

I think any clean / not silver 'harmful' storage that avoids new air coming in, suits.
I use icecream boxes that seal like that, and glass jars. All very well cleaned/dried.
I think the worst thing that can be done is regularly messing around with the silver. Store it well and for the rest leave it. At least in terms of allowing new air/dust to enter.

Welcome and good luck with your new hobby/asset storage mechanism.

I keep ASEs in US Mint tubes and CSMs, Philharmonics and 90's Libertads in RCM tubes. The tubes aren't the ultimate in protection against damage and toning but they're good enough for the mints, so I figure they're good enough for me. I don't think you should ever have to sell ASEs for less than spot unless you're masochistic.

ASEs are bullion which I don't think should EVER sell below spot (i'm assuming ur not using them as hocky pucks). Since they're bullion I wouldn't spend a ton of money on storage. The mint tubes + freezer bag/vacuum bag if you wanna be extra careful is all I would do.

Afterthought.... what about mint tubes in freezer bags submerged in mineral oil =D
